Errrr... The Bachelor's Alex Nation isn't actually named Alex Nation.

Given that trivia about ex-Bachelor contestants is one of my favourite topics, I have some very important news:

Alex Nation‘s real name is not actually Alex goddamn Nation.

When we first met the now 26-year-old on the fourth season of The Bachelor in 2016, she confidently introduced herself to us (… but mostly Richie) as Alex. Then, when Nikki Gogan’s heart was ripped out of her chest and stomped all over, and Alex’s Instagram became public, we came to know her as Alexandra Nation.

Well. That, my friends, is a lie.

In an Instagram video for Vogue Dental, Alex casually shared a fact people “don’t know about me”.

“Hi, I’m Alex,” she said, “but… my name is actually Alexandra Denise Marilyn Nation McGurgan.”

In the comments, Alex’s dad wrote, “very well thought out name!!!” to which she responded, “Dad, it doesn’t even fit on my passport.”

It would appear she has two middle names, and two last names, which make for a bit of a mouthful.

Of course, Alex Nation isn’t the only person with a profile to go by an adapted version of their real name.

Here are a few other celebrities’ real names you might not know:

Did anyone actually think Alex Nation was a real name? Although, no offence, I certainly don't blame her changing it from McGurgan if she was seeking a public profile.

Wasn't she recently in the press talking about how she has a real job now because the SM influencer gig wasn't paying the bills? Why, therefore, is she still popping up in stories like this...? And what does it matter what her name is?

I didn't really think about it much at all, to be honest. But why wouldn't it be a real name? It's obviously not Alex's real name (though it is a part of her name) but it IS a name. There are quite a few people with the surname Nation listed in the White Pages and I personally knew someone with the surname Nations.

Could have articles and promotions paid for before she decided to go back to work perhaps?

I have an interest in names - onomastics - etymology, origin, source, meaning etc. I do recall thinking "Alex Nation" sounds like a stage name, and I bet that's not what's on her birth certificate. "Alex Nation" is a kind of "Max Power" name - short, punchy, memorable, masculine, a kind of "power" name. I've never actually come across a Nation before and I tend to remember people's names, so that's why I did spare it a thought. BTW do people still actually use the White Pages ;)?
