If you’re anything like us, you probably devoured all ten episodes of Netflix’s binge-worthy show YOU in one single sitting last December.
The trashy but oh-so-addictive psychological thriller, based on a novel of the same name by Caroline Kepnes, follows bookstore manager Joe who quickly becomes infatuated with aspiring writer Beck after crossing paths with her.
Joe (played almost too well by Penn Badgley of Gossip Girl fame) will stop at nothing to get Beck (Once Upon a Time‘s Elizabeth Lail); stalking her online to gather information to get close to her, stealing her phone to keep an eye on her, lurking outside her apartment window (and as you do, casually jerking off…), as well as removing every obstacle – and person – in his way to be with her. Yes, that even includes murder.

It was nail-biting stuff, right until the very end, and naturally, now that it’s been almost a year since it was on our screens, we are simply dying for more.
A second season was actually already announced by YOU‘s former home on US network Lifetime a while back, but as of December Netflix has full reigns of the show and season two will be premiering on the streaming giant on Boxing Day.
Who will be returning in season two of YOU?
In season two of YOU, Penn Badgley will be reprising his role as terrifying psychopath Joe as he heads to LA and begins his search for love – again. However, in the newly released season two teaser, we find out he will be masquerading under a new name: Will.
Given the high body count in the first season, it’s unclear if anyone else will be returning so it’s likely Joe Will will be meeting a whole new set of people to creep out and most likely… murder.
The show’s co-creator and co-showrunner Sera Gamble told The Hollywood Reporter: “Part of the fun of continuing the story is that the loose ends from Joe’s past are still dangling and could come back to him at any time. He is very worried about the fact that Peach Salinger’s family has hired people to investigate her alleged suicide, and there is evidence potentially still at her house from season one.”
Oh and remember Joe’s ex Candace, who we only discovered was actually alive and well at the end of the first season? Gamble told Variety that she “does indeed have a role in season two”, with actress Ambyr Childers returning to the role.

The new season will also feature a new leading lady – Love Quinn – played by Victoria Pedretti, who appeared in Netflix’s horror series The Haunting of Hill House.
Love Quinn is an aspiring chef working in a gourmet grocery store. Unlike Beck, she’s not interested in the world of social media, branding and self-promotion, and focuses instead on leading an interesting life.
Enter Joe/Will, who she senses has knowledge of grief and loss similar to her own.
Others joining the cast include Charlie Barnett as Gabe, Jenna Ortega as Ellie, Chris D’Elia as Henderson and Robin Lord Taylor.
It looks like both Shay Mitchell (Peach) and Elizabeth Lail (Beck) won’t be appearing in the new season – even in flashbacks.
What will happen in YOU‘s second season?
The second season of the show will be based on Kepnes’ follow up novel called Hidden Bodies and based on the synopsis, we are in for a ride.
Amazon’s description reads: “The problem with hidden bodies is that they don’t always stay that way. They re-emerge, like dark thoughts, multiplying and threatening to destroy what Joe wants most: true love. And when he finds it in a darkened room in Soho House, he’s more desperate than ever to keep his secrets buried. He doesn’t want to hurt his new girlfriend – he wants to be with her forever. But if she ever finds out what he’s done, he may not have a choice…”
Sharing the news on Instagram, actor Penn Badgley wrote: “Ready for a fresh start.”
Just like the first season, the second season will be made up of 10 episodes, which are each 40 minutes long.
