The bikini photo that's got 'invisible illness' sufferers cheering

On the beach, or during the ‘swimsuit’ section of a beauty pageant, there is no where to hide. But just because you can’t hide, doesn’t mean you should ever feel ashamed.

Sierra Sanderson set social media on fire this weekend when she proudly stepped out with her insulin pump attached to her bikini belt during the Miss Idaho beauty pageant, which she went on to win.

The move prompted a wave of people with Type 1 diabetes to reveal their own insulin pumps on social media, under the hashtag#showmeyourpump.

It was National Diabetes Awareness Week in Australia last week, and we couldn’t think of a more fitting way to see it out than with sufferers of the ‘invisible illness’ coming out and showing us a little bit more about how they manage their diabetes.
