Edi's girlfriend posed with her future engagement ring for over month. She had no idea.

Marriage proposals sound like a tough slog.

You need to buy the ring, and then either create, or wait for the perfect moment. And if you’ve chosen the latter option, you could be waiting for weeks, if not months.

This was the struggle UK athlete, Edi Okoro found himself in, when he was trying to plan his marriage proposal to girlfriend, Cally Read.

Millennials are now using avocados to propose, and this is downright nutty behaviour. Post continues below.

Sharing his conundrum on their Facebook page, Cally & Edi, he said he wanted the moment to capture his “spontaneous” nature.

“Those who have gone through this (and those who will soon find out) you want to propose in a way that speaks to you as a person and couple. Some plan a flash mob, a fancy meal, or even arrange a marry me sign. I couldn’t do this because ‘Edi doesn’t plan.’ I’m a spontaneous improviser,” he wrote.

“This made it even more of a challenge because Cally knows this, and the moment I planned a holiday or meal she would have clocked on to what I was about to do.”

“Because of this I took the ring with me everywhere hoping the ‘moment’ would arise in line with my spontaneous style.”

But the moment never came, and so he decided to have a little fun with it. After a month or so of waiting for the right moment, Edi came up with another plan.

“I was sitting on the sofa admiring ‘my precious’ (yes I became very attached to this ring by this point) Cally almost caught me staring at the ring, and it hit me!” he continued.

“All these missed opportunities mixed in with the thought – Cally doesn’t know I have the ring!! I should just start documenting these moments!”

“The idea was to take as many photos, in more daring scenarios, until I found the perfect moment to propose, or until I got caught, at which point I would propose!”

This is what that looked like:

Since sharing his 'long-game' proposal plan, Edi's photos have gone viral. To date his post has received 96,000 reactions, 29,000 comments and 67,000 shares. Eventually however, Edi did indeed pop the question, and now him and Cally are officially engaged.

"So we did end up getting engaged, and no I didn’t get caught," he wrote in a followup post.

"We took this photo not long after she said YES. She didn’t know about this library until several weeks later ... My smile is a 'you know nothing Cally Read' smile."

We can't wait to see what he has in store for the wedding.

So he's only published these photos to Facebook after he proposed? I can't help but think it would have been funnier if he was uploading them one at a time and she still didn't notice until he actually proposed, especially since it seems to be their joint Facebook page...
