Perth tradie saves toddler in a supermarket

This is every parent’s nightmare – and the situation in which real heroes are forged out of ordinary people.

Amy Collard was shopping with her 2 year old daughter Shylar, at a local supermarket in Perth when Shylar suddenly fell unconscious and stopped breathing. Her mother became distraught (as you would) looking for someone to try and help her.  Amy tries everything, together with her fellow shoppers, including the Heimlich Manouver but to no end. Shylar’s body remains lifeless and limp. Amy is seen running out of the shop to find Shylar's father who returns and becomes frantic with worry.

The footage (caught on CCTV) is harrowing. Incredibly raw and frightening and real, but ultimately amazing when a fellow shopper Rowan O’Neill steps in and administers mouth-to-mouth resuscitation.   Watch it here

.

Wow. Now that ‘s what makes a real hero.

As for Shylar she had a very high fever and, after spending the night in hospital, was sent home and is doing well.

Today Tonight has interviewed the hero, Rowan O'Neill. Watch it here
