Gwyneth Paltrow just claimed she single-handedly made yoga a thing. Yes, really.

If you count yourself as a yoga fan, then Gwyneth Paltrow would like you to know that it’s all because of her.

A brazen statement for the 46-year-old to make, considering the ancient Indian practice originated some 5000 to 10,000 years ago.

The vagina-steaming advocate, and founder of wellness hub Goop, made the controversial statements in her interview with Wall Street Journal, and unsurprisingly, people have taken offence to her comments.

Speaking about her pioneering ways, the Paltrow shared how she was at first ridiculed by her peers for partaking in the exercise.

“I remember when I started doing yoga and people were like, ‘What is yoga? She’s a witch. She’s a freak,'” she said.

It was then that she decided to drop this sparkling anecdote.

“Forgive me if this comes out wrong,” she started.

“But I went to do a yoga class in LA recently and the 22-year-old girl behind the counter was like, ‘Have you ever done yoga before?’ And literally I turned to my friend, and I was like, ‘You have this job because I’ve done yoga before.'”

Credit where credit is due, Paltrow was probably instrumental in creating the mass trend of yoga pants in the Western world, but it’s not like she pioneered the ancient discipline of contorting your body into tree pose.

Not to mention the many old-school celebrities like The Beatles, Quincy Jones, Marilyn Monroe and even Audrey Hepburn, who also called themselves fans of the practice.

Anyway, people were understandably pretty miffed with her comments, and shared their thoughts on Twitter.
