These are the best beauty hacks we're learned in 2016.

No matter how long you’ve been applying makeup, there are always new things to be learned. And 2016 proved that.

This year we learned we’ve been doing our eye makeup wrong our whole lives and how to fix cracked acrylic nails – because you definitely do not want to rip them off yourself.

Here are some of the best beauty how-tos and time-saving tips we discovered this year:

1. Zoe Foster Blake’s best-ever beauty tips.

The former beauty editor and author of guide to all things beauty, Amazinger Face, knows a thing or two about makeup and skincare. Here she shares her best-ever beauty tips.

2. Move over brow pencils, hello brow gels.

Mamamia writer Katy Hall upped her eye-brow game with a brow gel. Here’s how she transformed her eyebrows from sparse to filled, held in place and looking downright fabulous for the rest of the day.

3. How to fake fringey-freshness.

Argh. It’s been two days since you washed and the rest of your hair is clean(ish-looking), but your fringe’s oiliness and giving the game away. Here’s a simple way to get fresh-looking hair without having to wash, dry and style the lot.

4. Fight the frizz with these three hacks.

Does your hair get bigger than Monica’s when she’s in Barbados? (That’s a Friends reference in case you’re unfamiliar with the show. And if that’s true, what exactly were you doing all 90s?) Here are three easy frizz-fighting hacks that will take your hair from fluffy to sleek and smooth.

5. Professional makeup artist shares her expertise.

You didn’t know you should do your lip liner after your lipstick? Neither did we. Napoleon Perdis make-up artist Nic has plenty more handy tips for perfect makeup application.

Meanwhile, if you’re hitting the beach this Summer (and we really hope you are,) Mamamia Out Loud has the pact women need to make.

Do you have any top tips to share? What hack save you time this year?

Brow gels are fine if you have decent eyebrows to start with. I have very little in the way of eyebrows and need a pencil to create and fill, a gel wouldn't do much.

Gimme Brow by Benefit somehow fills in brows and tames them at the same time...I have no idea how it works but it does somehow. I still use Ka-Brow with it as well though, just to help create more of an arch.

I am an older woman, so the eyebrows are becoming sparse. I use pencil first, then gel. Works well.
