The genius way one mum tricked a thief after a Christmas present was stolen from her house.

Crysti-Lei Arnold was not going to lose a Christmas gift to thieves twice.

The Perth mother was furious when she discovered a parcel was stolen from outside her front door, so she set up a decoy parcel to try catch anyone else who tried to steal from her.

And she didn’t have to wait long.

CCTV footage shared by Arnold on Facebook showed a man ride up to her door on a motorcycle and grab a parcel before making a quick getaway.

But it seems the joke is on him.

“So after last weeks [sic] theft, we put out a decoy box, full of bricks. Some d*ck brain just stole it,” she wrote.

The video also showed Arnold opening the door just as the thief grabs the parcel – she gives him the finger as he rides away.

One comment asked her what she said to him as he escaped.

“I believe it was something along the lines of ‘Enjoy our bricks, d*ck brain!!’, because I am known for my eloquence and grace and would hate to disappoint.”

What a legend.

She added that she’d got the man’s number plate and reported the incident to police, along with the earlier incident also caught on CCTV.

People should always opt for sign on delivery.
Leaving parcels out is just asking for trouble.
Even more so when the delivery driver can say they delivered it when they didn't

I've very rarely been given the option, honestly. Some vendors send things without requiring a signature and others don't. If it's the former, there's never been any way for me to insist on signing. That I know of, anyway.

Hang on, so she had footage of the first one being stolen, so set up a fake to get footage of it being stolen? If she had footage of them taking the first, it's not like she needed more evidence...

I'm glad she did it and sent it to the cops, but can we really call this a genius idea?
What's the thought process here?
'This person steals parcels, what can I use to tempt him? I know! A parcel!'

Haha, yeah, she's lucky her car wasn't stolen, otherwise she'd have to buy another car for them to steal in the name of evidence gathering.

Agree with you both. Yep, how on earth is this even remotely 'genius'? It sounds absolutely stupid and pointless to me. I don't think the police will be too happy that she put a parcel of bricks out and let someone steal then tell them about it. It would be considered aggravated nuisance and a waste of their time. I think someone stole this woman's brains a long time ago. All of this is just so mindnumbingly stupid. I can only hope 'genius' in this case is a sarcastic nod to stupidity. The woman and the thief should get together. Then they could share the quarter of a brain cell. The man should be charged with trespassing and theft, and the woman with wasting police resources, and having the maturity and brain capacity of a pea.

She didn't catch the plate number the first time. 2nd time she did. That part should be obvious.
