Best and worst of the week!

Another week has been left behind us and, around Mamamia at least, it’s been a maelstrom of show preparation, posts and … so much else.

Is it just me or do these things fly by even quicker these days?

Well, enough of that, let’s move on to the bests and worsts of the week.

Best: I went and saw a comedian called Sam Simmons at The Factory in Sydney on Wednesday night. He came highly recommended (indeed, he’s won the best show awards at many of the circuit festivals) and holy wow he did not disappoint. Funny, crass in places (let’s be honest, kind of my thing) but entirely unique. I listen to a lot of comedy and I’ve not seen or heard anything like it. And, to be frank, any show that includes a self-righteous, life-affirming puppet Llama called Horhay (not sure of the spelling) is alright in my books.

Worst: Waiting for my tax to come back. I don’t have a credit card (because I am a numpty who has shunned most normal accoutrements of modern living that help me in any way) and I was running desperately low on funds after my America trip. Budgeting? Also something I don’t do well. I am literally a gourmet tuna and pasta chef, however, so, silver lining and all that.

OMM: The Mamamia Reader picnic! Two of our Sydney readers (and regular commenters) John James and Miss T  joined superior organising forces and created a get together in the park for anyone who was in the area. It wasn’t an official party but they were nice enough to invite us. Nat and I went along after a rainy morning and a fight with a parking ticket machine and ate ridiculous amounts of rainbow coloured cake. I snuck along a couple of bottles of Riccadonna Allegra (they did a sponsored post with us and I purloined the drinks) and we had ourselves a right merry time. Seriously, how good is sunshine?

How has your week been? What were the best and worst bits?

Bit late to the party, but if anyone's still around, here goes!

Best: We've signed a lease on a new house! More space, can have people over and no more bogan druggie neighbours!!

Worst: OMG, the stresssssssss!! I feel like I'm haemorrhaging money. what with double rent and needing to buy furniture. Plus have to move stuff out of 4 different places, pack, clean and keep up at work. Arghh!!!

OMM: My job is getting crappier by the day and feeling bad for some good friends who will probably have to leave the country after their lab just missed out on government funding this year. We'll be losing 2 very good minds :(

No best/worst this week, head is full of exam stress. I do have an OMM though:

My boyfriend and I are off to Hawaii in a month and after a very minor scare last year in Europe, I've become an anxious passenger with a fear of flying. Everything makes me jump, I'm always close to tears and always thinking that the worst is about to happen. I don't want to go to the doctor and get medication to knock me out (I hate the next day hangover) so I was wondering if any of you knew of a good over-the-counter remedy that actually works and will calm me down for most of the flight. I've tried rescue remedy (it didn't really do much) and am interested in what you ladies/gents might have to say about it.

Thanks in advance xx

Rescue remedy is like a placebo. I agree it does absolutely nothing. I can't believe how famous that brand is when it is as potent as water. I am going through a relationship breakup and discovered a company that has natural products that actually work. If you google "native remedies" you'll find it. I recommend a product called "Pure Calm". Check it out. Only thing is it is from the USA so you have to wait 2 weeks to get it. It's worth it though!!

I am terrified of flying also, getting worse with age too.. A friend gave me a Valium the last time I flew - felt lovely and happy in the departure lounge but as soon as we boarded I was overtaken by fear and just about fled the plane... Good luck xx

Hi Juliebee,

I take Phenergan which is a drowsy antihistamine available over the counter. One 10mg tablet on a recent flight from Singapore to London as soon as I got on the plane and I was out like a light almost as soon as the seat bealt sign went off. Slept for pretty much 10 hours unintertuped.

Good luck and enjoy Hawaii :-)
