I did the smoky eye this morn! Easy peasy! I can’t believe after 17 years of trying to achieve this look I actually pulled it off. I’m so very pleased :-) That tip with doing a V at the side of your eye makes all the difference. Thanks Zoe!

My top tip is know thy eye shape!

Girls w big eyes can pull off a smokey eye like Zoe’s tutorial.

However, for those with small eyes, who barely have a double crease, you can simply get away with painting your entire lid before the crease (do not go into the crease) with a dark shade and lots of eyeliner + mascara.

Those w sunken eyes who already have a natural shadow, go completely nude on your lower lid, then a brown JUST on the crease – not too much at all, then liner and mascara in black.

I’ve never been a beauty stylist but have loved makeup all my life!

I have a question. With the winged concealer trick, I have quite crepey, kinda wrinkly skin under my eyes and if I was to put that much concealer under my eye it just makes it look worse. The concealer kinda cakes up and sits in the wrinkles. Now I use cheap make up, if I spent some money on a good one one will I not get this problem? Which concealer is in that video? Love you Zoe!!!

I really must buy her book when I get the chance. I had a bit of a browse last weekend while out with the boyfriend, and happened to stumble on the coldsore remedy page (I have been suffering from two for the past week) and will be trying out her tips for the next dreaded one!

I am also hopeless at smokey eye. I just end up looking like I got into a bar fight.

She is so darn likeable!!!! Some people in the beauty industry just take themselves way too seriously but Zoe is so down to earth and normal about the whole thing. I bought this book a few weeks ago and it is amazing (as the name suggests). I consider myself fairly savvy when it comes to these things but her little tips particularly about finding your perfect lip shades are freakin awesome!

I hope this isn’t the last we see of her

Zoe, love the videos, thanks! I have noticed that you have white eyeliner on, which i think its a fab thing, but i have very olive skin and the white liner just pops out a bit too much for my liking… any suggestions of brands/ whitness would be welcome… ta x

It looks really great – and Zoe has the knack of explaining it so it sounds quite straight forward. My question is the same one I always ask makeup-y people…does anyone have any recommendations for really pale coloured makeup?

My skin is vampire white! and no I don’t fake tan. Ever. If I use colours like Zoe is using I look like I’ve been punched in the face. Is there a brand which does nice feeling makeup for really pale skin?

I’m in a similar boat. I wouldn’t say there’s a particular brand that caters to pale skin, but Laura Mercier and Bobbi Brown are fantatic for makeup that fits you and your skin perfectly. For pale skin it’s more about finding coloura that suit you – warm or cool toned is a good place to start. I personally still wear browns, there’s a shade of brown for everyone. Maybe some champagne shadow might be nice? I also like very light rosy pinks and lavender…play around and maybe go do a consultation at a Beauty counter for help to! Good luck and have fun :)

I feel you. I’m very pale and pink-toned. A lot of the so-called ‘ivory’ foundations out there are yellow-toned and are nothing like my skin colour. I’ve always been afraid of doing smokey eyes because of the ‘punched in the eye’ look! :)

Hey LK, have you tried Dainty Doll? You have to shop around online but they’re the make up brand of Nicola Roberts (from the band Girls Aloud in the UK) who decided to make her own make up because she’s pale.
I have some of their stuff and I love it, but I bought it in the UK so I don’t know how good it is to buy online (sorry!)

Illamasqua- it’s amazing. The prices are similar to MAC but the colour choice is much better us pale girls! Their colours start from a pure white (more ‘stage makeup’ i suppose) and go from their- so you can even buy the white one to lighten your normal colour in winter…
Their Rich Liquid foundation has amazing staying power but is definitely ‘full coverage’- they have a lighter coverage foundation as well but I prefer just to mix the full coverage with moisturiser to lessen the look
I think their BB cream might be out in Australia too…
Sorry- I’m rambeling on, but check it out! Their in Myer :)

haha I didnt read this properly and started banging on about foundation oops.
For eyeshadows etc most brands will make colours suitable- with this look you can buy similar toned browns that are just a shade or two lighter then the ones used for a less dramatic look. Too Faced (sold at KIT) have some great basic eyeshadow palettes as do Bobbie Brown like Emma suggested… just have a play around and work out what suits you best!

hi LK, I’m quite pale too and not sure whether you meant makeup in general or just foundations but I like MAC for foundation/concealers/powders. They have lots of shades in both warm and cool bases. Their bronzer is the only one I’ve found that is subtle enough for me! (though I wish it wasn’t so sparkly – any alternative recommendations, anyone?)

I also wish I knew where to start with eyeshadows… There just seems to be SO many options. I just want someone to tell me what palette to get!

I entirely agree: my eyebrows are TERRIFYING in these videos. I have no idea how it happened, except for the part where I was nervous and waiting for the crew to arrive and kept mussin’ round and adding more brow powder.

I love them too! I once had lovely eyebrows like that but I plucked the bejesus out of them over the years (thanks bitchy friend for making meself conscious about my eyebrows when I was only 12!). I have spent the last 6 months growing them back and have come to the conclusion that this as good as it gets. Made my way to Benefit eyebrow bar at Myer Melbourne one weekend a few months back but it was heaving. I think those guys can probably help me colour and fake what’s missing!

My 4 year old has inherited my eyebrows and I am going to warn her away from over plucking!

I have really pale skin – heck, I’m practically see through. I actually use more charcoal when I’m doing a smokey eye teamed with nudes. I use only the darkest brown to blend – hardly any at all.

I probably use a lot more neutral on the inner of my eye than Zoe and a dash of white right in the corner.

While it sounds frightening intense, it actually works really well. I do have quite large eyes though.

For those with small eyes I suggest limiting the size of your “v”.
