Young woman under investigation for wearing a miniskirt in Saudi Arabia.

A young woman filmed breaking Saudi Arabia’s strict dress code is being investigated by local authorities.

The woman, a model known only as Khulood, posted a video of herself walking around an historic fort in Ushayqir to Snapchat this week. In the clip she is wearing a cropped top and mini skirt.

Women in Saudi Arabia are under some of the strictest restrictions in the world, required to wear loose-fitting, full-length robes known as abayas in public, as well as a headscarf. Women are also not allowed to drive and are segregated from unrelated men.

The video soon made its way to Twitter, where it sparked debate among Saudis. Some called the move brave, while others insisted she should be punished.

According to the BBC, a local newspaper reported officials in the city where the clip was filmed had called on the province’s governor and police to take action against the woman.

A Tweet from Saudi Arabia’s religious police, the Committee for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice, says it has been made aware of the video and was in contact with the relevant authorities.

Khulood’s video comes just weeks after Ivanka and Melania Trump chose not to wear headscarves while accompanying US president Donald Trump on an official visit to the Arab nation in May.
