In January last year a law came into effect stating that all sperm donors must agree to provide identifying information. This information would be stored and held on file so that the child would be able to contact the donor once they reached 18 if they so chose.
Clearly this is putting up a huge barrier for men who would have donated their sperm without too much thought before the legislation came into place. Now being a donor is no longer just about making a “deposit” and walking away. There is every chance – and it is legally permissible that one day 18 years later you’ll meet someone carrying your DNA

“IVF Australia head Professor Michael Chapman told The Sunday Telegraph that donor shortages had become critical, falling from 100 to 10 at his clinic in the past four years.
“Last year we only had two or three donors on our books,” Professor Chapman said. “Today around Australia there are about 50 donors, but the demand is still substantially higher than that.”
As a result, IVF Australia started importing sperm from the US two months ago.
Professor Chapman said donor imports were “not ideal” but would help reduce waiting times for insemination.
So there’s just not enough sperm in Australia. Well, not enough for the women looking for sperm donors in NSW that is. Fertility specialist Professor Illingworth says
“We have for a long time been looking for a way to improve sperm donor numbers in Australia.
“We have now found an agency in the US whose donors have given consent to provide identity to the child after they turn 18,” he said.
Not all fertility clinics are going the American route though. At Genea fertility clinic, doctors recommend finding a “known donor” so the biological father is not a stranger to the child.
“Genea strongly supports the rights of children to know their genetic heritage and will only provide treatment in situations where this is the intention,” Genea medical director, Professor Mark Bowman, said.
What role does the sperm donor HAVE to play (if any)? Nothing is ever as simple as just “buying sperm”. What are the repercussions in terms of health profiling and the child having contact with the donor (if they want to)?

I would donate sperm in a heartbeat if we didn't have these stupid rules about being contactable and known to the child. No wonder donation rates have plummeted.
As for ppl suggesting parents should adopt rather than use IVF- give me a break. The barriers put up when adopting kids are high, and why shouldn't intelligent, committed parents try for their own babies?
There’s a ton of sperm in Australia. It’s just that men are not giving it away.
We know that if only men were more like females the world would be a better place. Exceedingly few females donate eggs. So it’s a good thing that exceedingly few men donate sperm.
Another factor is why should men help females? The Women’s Electoral Lobby says that men don’t care about kids and scatter their seed will nilly all around the place. We have listened and learned that donating is oppression of females.
We also know that females can’t be bothered to help men. Take a look at breast cancer as opposed to prostate cancer even though prostate cancer kills more men than breast cancer kills females. So why should men bother going through an incredibly embarrassing process to help females?
But there is no need to worry. Men will fix all of this. Men are great aren’t they!
Firstly, we know that females are completely fake. Hair, eyebrows, eyelashes, eyes, skin, lips, boobs, height, weight, age, personality, orgasms, love etc. Everything

Thirdly, you may have read a snippet in the paper about a male Professor in IVF who was whinging that the law won’t let him do what’s best. He can create genetically perfect babies. VERY soon, we will be able to grow babies in vitro. No more concerns about what a mother may ingest. So, clinics will begin to pop up in competition to IVF clinics since, although more expensive, the success rate will be 100% compared to 15%. They will be able to offer a man a baby which is genetically perfect with 100% guarantee of paternity. The clinic will never kill his baby or harm the baby in any way nor will it ever take the child away from him nor will he have to keep paying the clinic when he no longer has any use for it. Like IVF today, all you need is the money. Men can afford the technology more than females because females refuse to work (only 27.4% of females work full time & 50% don’t work at all). Men naturally have a preference for a son. Ergo, the global decline of females since the second world war will gather pace exponentially. Nothing or no one can stop it now. The investment is far too great to abandon the technologies. The market created by females is there to be filled by men for men. Some projections show the complete elimination of females from the planet in only 150 years from 2020. It is your future, girls, whether you like it or not. We men will create paradise on Earth. For men. Eerily, this is what the Bible foretold and I don’t believe in Gods. The decline in human females will compensate for global population growth.
In addition, in 2019 a female in Sweden will bring an action before the courts to sue a donor for child support. He knew his sperm was to be used to create a baby so why shouldn’t he pay? The courts will find in her favour and that will be the end of donations globally. So females either use the clinics or go childless. Since females are more concerned about what they look like (e.g. body image etc) than what they achieve, most will go childless.
