The Christmas best and worst. How was your day?

By LUCY ORMONDE.

Greetings!

We’re breaking the rules today and bringing the weekly best and worst post forward so you can tell us all about how  your day was yesterday.

So how was Christmas? Did Santa come? Did you burn the turkey? Eat too many shortbreads? And what do you have planned for the next days?

I’ll start….

Best: For me, yesterday was the first time in forever that I haven’t tried to fit in 165+ family gatherings in one day. It was just the perfect combination of eating, drinking, eating, drinking, napping, eating and drinking, topped off with a sunset walk along the beach with the family.

Worst: Too many cocktails. I’m feeling it today.

Your turn now…. How was your Christmas day?

This x-mas was really chaotic and not at all the way I wanted it to be. My daughter's friend decided the kids needed to be 'adopted' by another friend's family. It was super sweet of all of them but was also over-kill. This family must have spent 1000. on my daughter & Grands. My daughter's friend also arranged for this family to show up right in the middle of our gift giving. It completely over-shadowed the gifts I had gotten for my kids, and some were even the same as I was giving.

I felt kind of embarrassed as my daughter is not destitute, I take good care of them including providing my home as a free place to live. My daughter also does not cry over my generosity!

I'm trying not to be a scrooge about it as I know it was all done with loving intention, but I had heard her friend would be over to briefly drop off some gifts, the adopt-a-family part was a complete surprise. I am happy for my daughter and would have preferred to be told about it so I could ask them to come in the afternoon.

We also had plans to go to my son's for breakfast at 9 & didn't get there till noon. We were all starving & it ruined our family breakfast together - the food was pretty cold. I think my DIL was pretty upset also. My daughter & I both have hypoglycemia & get quite irritated when not fed on time - we can bite other's heads off. I felt nauseous & had a roaring headache by the time they left. My daughter's friend who arranged it all is an attention & approval seeker, so it seemed to be more about her than anything. I kind of want to say something to her, but I'm afraid she will take it wrong & complain to my daughter who will get mad at me. I pretty much flat out told her we had to leave NOW, (as soon as the other family left) because we were already 3 hrs. late for our breakfast.

GRRRR! Bah! Humbug!

I'd appreciate any comments/ feedback.

We make wish lists for each other in my family! Makes it so much easier and I'd much rather get everyone something they definitely want and don't already have! Also I live overseas so makes the whole online thing much easier! Don't judge!
