Thank you notes. Who (or what) gets one from you today?

Thx Thx Thx is a website begun by Leah Dieterich, a creative director and writer in LA. It’s based on the premise of writing thank you notes, and not just to people who had you over for dinner or gave you a birthday present. This is the delightfully quirky catch.

Her ‘About’ page describes it like this:

Leah Dieterich’s mother always told her to write thank you notes. So she does. To everything. thxthxthx is her daily exercise in gratitude.

There’s always something to be thankful for. From the important things like Songs You’re Embarrassed to Like, and Heavy Eyelids that Tell You When You Need to Sleep, to friends and family, love and loneliness, light and darkness, Leah Dieterich sets out to acknowledge them all. thxthxthx is her daily exercise in gratitude.

Here are a few examples from her site which she updates daily with a new note:

I just love it. There is such a complete lack of cynicism and sarcasm that it’s almost shocking. It certainly made me think. You know those mind-blowingly successful books ‘Don’t Sweat The Small Stuff”?

This takes it that little bit further. This is about not only not sweating the small stuff but sometimes celebrating it and finding a way to turn it around to be something you’re grateful for. HIGHLIGHTER PENS?

But she’s so right. That’s exactly what highlighter pens do.

So I thought it might be a lovely way to kick off today by writing my own thank you note and I encourage you to do the same. Come back as many times as you like and leave some more. I plan to.

Dear Homemade Smoothie,

Thank you for being a refreshing change to my usual breakfast and allowing me to sit at my computer and start working while I drink you. You are the perfect combo of good-for-me and tasty with a good dollop of convenient thrown in.

Best

* Louise was my right hand woman throughout my editing years. She was the Art Director of Cosmo for almost every issue I edited then Creative Director of Cosmo, Cleo and Dolly when I was Ed-In-Chief. We had an extraordinary working relationship. One of those you dream about and one of a small handful I’ve ever found. She’s not a words person and I don’t speak design but she was able to just GET me and translate what I wanted into the most beautiful layouts and designs. Now she has left magazines (finally!) and started her own interior design blog called TableTonic which is stunning and she has also opened an adjoining online store selling unique homewares. Check it ouuuuut.

Dear Bed

Thank you for being soft in all the right places & firm where needed too. You have supported us through countless nights of breastfeeding, baby bouncing, kisses & cuddles.

Life is just easier because you're here.

Much love,
