Ruby Rose may be used to playing a criminal in Orange is the New Black but generally speaking she tends to keep her well formed nose fairly clean.
As one of Australia’s most personable exports it seemed a little out of character then when she was accused of throwing a tantrum – and her food – in a New Orleans restaurant last week.
“She was having like a tantrum. She was awful,” restaurant owner Seung Hong told Nola.com, accusing Rose of throwing a handful of chips at one of his bartenders.
He also labelled her “a bully” and said she was the first person he’d ever thrown out of his restaurant.
“She picked up a handful of french fries and threw them at him,” he said.
“I think she was like… trying to be a bully.”
Rose is no bully, however, and took to social media to explain herself.
Yes, she did throw some chips, but only after the bartender in question provoked her by making “vulgar” comments about her sobriety.
After waiting an hour and a half for her food (which never came, by the way), Rose says she approached the bar to check on it.
She was offered free drinks but declined, explaining she was sober.
“[The bartender] then made some really rude and vulgar comments to the table,” she explained in a post on her official Facebook page.
“When someone makes repeated derogatory jokes about the sobriety I worked so hard to achieve, it’s hard not to react emotionally. So I threw a singular fry at him.”

The bartender clearly didn’t get the message because as Rose was leaving he returned, along with his offensive commentary.
“He came back as we were getting ready to leave and continued making awful comments, so I continued with the fries,” she said.
“Every day I learn new lessons about handling cultural and social ignorance. I am deeply regretful to the French fry and I am regretful that I reacted at all. Maybe next time I won’t throw fries, then again, maybe next time that bartender won’t tell someone who is sober to ‘go call your f*cking sponsor!”
Fair enough, really.

Call me crazy but I find it really hard to believe... From her explanation it went like this:
Him: I'm sorry I can offer you a round of free drinks for the inconvenience of your food being delayed
Her: no thank you I'm sober
HIm: Go call you F***ing sponsor then
Her: **throws fries that have miraculously appeared mid complaining about the absence of said fries**
..........
I'm not saying he wasn't rude (intentionally or not) but that it definitely didn't happen that way!
Not that the waiter wasn't inappropriate but I don't understand why she told him she was sober in the first place. I don't drink but I've never told a waiter that. Why should they care? Just order whatever drinks you do want.
I've also never thrown fries at a waiter and I've had some very rude ones in my time. I'd rather eat the fries and resolve any issues I have with the service in a mature manner that might actually get me somewhere. What is throwing fries supposed to achieve?
