Just days before her fifth birthday, North West celebrated the occasion with her mum Kim Kardashian in New York City.
Wearing Yeezys designed by her dad Kanye West and a candy necklace, the eldest Kardashian grandchild was treated to every five-year-old’s dream – a visit to an ice cream parlour and a candy bar.
But all eyes were on one thing – North’s hair.
Kim’s eldest child’s usual natural curls had been straightened and pulled into a high Ariana Grande-esque ponytail.
Kim has also spoken a lot about making her child aware of her biracial identity.
“Kanye always has his family around and people who look like my daughter – that’s important to me,” Kim said.

I thought my eyesight was pretty good but I can't even see whether North's hair is curly or straight in that picture.
Anyway, assuming it is indeed straight, I can see why it might bother some - hair is a big issue for African-American women. But provided North asked for it (and at 5 with a straight-haired mother, it's likely), she is still being taught that her hair's natural curls are beautiful too and her hair isn't straightened often enough to cause damage, I don't think it's a huge problem.
My daughters love to dress up & that includes doing your hair; they straighten, curl, braid, twist etc. etc.
It's only 'shocking' because it's someone famous........who cares!
