Breaking: Modern Family star indecently assaulted at a Sydney event.

23-year-old Modern Family actor Sarah Hyland has been indecently assaulted by a 29-year-old male fan while attending a Qantas event in Sydney.

Hyland was posing for photos and greeting young fans outside the Sebel Pier One near The Rocks area when a yet unidentified man allegedly groped her.

Security staff detained the man and he was later arrested by police.

Hyland was visibly distressed, pointing her finger at the man and saying, “Don’t touch me there!”

She left the event immediately following the incident. She’s since apologised to her fans and hosts for leaving, which is generous.

The star took to Twitter to apologise:

Hyland’s boyfriend, Matt Prokop also took to Twitter to defend her:

A NSW spokesman said a man was arrested at the scene and was charged with assault with an act of indecency. He has been granted conditional bail to appear at Downing Centre Local Court on March 14. The cast of Modern Family are currently in Sydney to film a special Australian episode of the sitcom.

What this post failed to mention was that the fan had special needs so I think he can be forgiven.

Special needs or not, we all have to understand some basic boundaries or realise that consequences apply.

The special needs children I teach and encounter in my school (ages 4.5-13.5) are given every chance to pick this up over time. Most of their (responsible) parents wouldn't have it any other way.

We accommodate differences and adjust some expectations but we don't resile from teaching social respect and responsibility. They won't always be children.

If someone grabbed my boob I'd tell them to get f**ked but I wouldn't to the police. It's not like I'd be permanently effected, I'd consider it a mild irritation
