The hair length every woman wants. NOW.

I’m not quite sure that medium length hair is ever deliberate, or at least it isn’t with me. My hair length tends to be because I’m way overdue for a haircut, or I’m too scared to go any shorter.

Hair that is not too long and not too short is my comfort zone. There’s so much you can do with it and the hairstyles are pretty simple.

And flattering.

And versatile.

That’s why women everywhere – from the school gate to the Red Carpet – always return to hair that falls just below the shoulders.

Here are five of the best hairstyles for medium-length hair which will make you look and feel fabulous, but best of all you can easily do at home.

1. Straight, textured.

Jennifer Aniston has always been the queen of the bed-hair and this style is a stunning example. We all know how to blowdry our hair straight. You can even do this with a hair straightener. Then tip your hair upside down, add a bit of product to the roots, shape it with your fingers and you're ready to go.

2. Soft curls

Soft curls will never go out of style but to give them a youthful, modern twist try pinning one side back. This never fails to look elegant and impressive. Start by softly curling your hair, shape it, spray it and then clip it back. Use whichever clip you like and treat that clip like an accessory - go simple or go bold.

3. Middle part

Another way to treat soft curls on medium hair is to choose a middle part to change it up. It's a more modern choice and immediately changes the look of your hair, particularly if you can't quite get the curls to sit right. Changing the part is the easiest way to correct this.

4. Straight, tucked

Dead-straight hair can be difficult to place and sometimes you have little fly-away sections that make it look a bit messy. After straightening your hair try gently tucking it behind both ears and spraying with heaps of hairspray that will keep it in place resulting in instant, elegant style.

5. Hair bending

A new hair trend called "hair bending" gives women with medium-length a different option rather than just straight or curls. It involves curling your hair with a hair straightener but focusing on the bottom of your hair not curling all the way to the end. Just curl the mid-section of your hair and leave the bottom section straight.

Regarding #2 (soft curls) - THESE ARE NOT CURLS! That hair is *just* wavy.
