After 21 months of marriage, Big Bang Theory's Kaley Cuoco has announced her divorce.

The pair have asked for privacy at this time.

The Big Bang Theory star Kaley Cuoco has announced that she and her husband Ryan Sweeting are divorcing after almost two years of marriage.

In a joint statement to E! News, Cuoco’s rep said that they had made the mutual decision to end their marriage.

The decision comes after Cuoco slammed rumours that the pair were divorcing in just April, claiming that the criticism only made their marriage stronger.

“I’m so proud of his passion and his inner strength to fight back, but most of all I am proud to be his wife – so all of you who take it upon yourselves to trash our marriage, daily workings of our relationship and everything in between, go ahead and keep doing it, cause it only makes us stronger,” Cuoco wrote on Instagram in a post that has since been removed.

Cuoco and Sweeting – a tennis star – were wed on New Years Eve, 2013 after a five month courtship.

“I admit it happened fast, but that’s who I am,” she told Cosmopolitan after the wedding. “When we met, I knew he was the one. I’m not 18 anymore.”

Their separation is the latest in a long line of celebrity couples to call it quits over the last few months, with Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck, Gwen Stefani and Gavin Rossdale, Megan Fox and Brian Green, and Amy Pohler and Nick Kroll all separating over the American summer.

I don't really understand how so many of these celeb marriages people seem to feel so strongly about each other then end so quickly.

I know a lot of people have said that 3 months is too short a time to date before marriage but the irony is back in the day many couples had very short engagements, whilst no one would be indelicate to tell you the reason I think they were desperate to get married so they could have sex! Of course I realise some would have anyway but I think many did not have premarital sex so dating for years would have been pretty frustrating. The point is I suspect long engagements are a modem thing, which is ironic but it doesn't really matter now if a marriage works out, back in the day marry in lust (I'm convinced many of the marriages where for that reason) then be shackled to them for the rest of life.

I do get that three months is a short time but I do think you get a pretty immediate idea with most people whether you gel with them. Though I realise there are exceptions to this.

Anyway whatever the reasons for their split, it can't be easy, no matter whether she is a big star or not, it must be a hard time for her. I was on daily mail site and people were saying such horrible things. There is such a thing as sympathy, sorely lacking in their comments, I think people forget celebs are human beings. Nobody knows for sure why their marriage didn't work out, or what Kaley and her hubby are like, a little kindness wouldn't go astray.

I will never understand what the big rush into marriage is about. If he's "the one", he'll still be the one a year down the track.
