Tuesday afternoon's news in under 5 minutes.

We’ve rounded up all the latest stories from Australia and around the world – so you don’t have to go searching.

1. Julia Gillard gives advice to Hillary Clinton about running a country.

Former Prime Minister Julia Gillard has some sound advice for Hillary Clinton should she win the next US election.

“If anything happens that’s sexist you’ve got to call it out early rather than thinking it will all normalise itself,” Gillard advised.

The pair both appeared on a panel of the most powerful women in the world in London last night.

Gillard foreshadowed that Clinton would see similar “gendered” criticisms she faced as the first female Prime Minister of Australia, The Guardian reports.

“This is not an Australian question, this is a global question. We’ll see some of it in real time I think during Hillary Clinton’s campaign and this is the moment for us to be having these deep conversations about how to change it so that for the daughters in the future there’s none of that baggage,” she said.

Clinton hopes to run in the upcoming 2016 Presidential election. If victorious, she will be the first female President of the United States.

2. Man who raped Melbourne schoolgirl at knife point receives prison sentence.

Trigger warning: This post deals with sexual assault.

A 59-year-old man has received a minimum sentence of six years in prison for raping a schoolgirl at knife point in broad daylight.

Christopher James Bahen, an alcoholic virgin, watched and filmed school girls walking past his Ringwood home for days, the Herald Sun reports.

One day, he chased after a 17-year-old girl and proceeded to rape her while passers-by looked on in horror.

He reportedly hurled abuse at the girl while he assaulted her, calling her a “c***” and a “whore”.

Judge Mark Gamble said the crime was akin to an “attack in horror movies”.

The court heard that Bahen had lead an “insular” life at home with his mother.

Police found that, in the days prior to the attack, Bahen had watched pornography depicting teenage-looking girls.

It is believed he planned the assault for six days before enacting the fantasy.

Bahen pleaded guilty to the one count of rape, and received eight-and-a-half years jail time, with a minimum of six years.

3. Sydney landlords rorting renters with squalid housing conditions.

Sydney council is cracking down on unsafe and illegal renting deals, after a three-bedroom home was discovered to have 58 beds.

According to Mail Online, international students, tourists and those desperate for housing are sleeping in pantries and bathrooms.

The accommodation scam is thought to be advertised on sites like Gumtree and Facebook.

The City of Sydney today announced former Scotland Yard detective, Roy Cottam, would lead an investigation into housing safety and overcrowding.

“We want to send out the strong message – we are coming after you,” Mr Cottam warned.

4. Mother begs government not to deport her daughter with autism.

An Indonesian woman is asking the government not to deport her and her daughter, who suffers autism.

Mei and her 11-year-old daughter, Emeline, arrived in Australia in 2012.

Back in Indonesia, Mei was abandoned by her husband and family, who believe Emeline is possessed by the devil.

Since moving to Australia, Mei says her daughter has received proper medical attention and schooling, and has seen a dramatic improvement in her health.

Mei, 46, works as a church cleaner but is earning more than the $6 an hour she was in Indonesia, Fairfax Media reports.

More importantly, her daughter’s severe condition has improved in only a year within the Australian school system.

Now, facing deportation, Mei is begging to be allowed to stay in Australia with her daughter.

She started a change.org petition to appeal to Immigration Minister Peter Dutton for mercy.

It currently has over 12,000 signatures.

Gillard, Australia's worst Prime Minister ever, but she learned from the best in Rudd.

Good advice for Hilary Clinton - though she's been around the traps for so long, misogynists everywhere have probably given up on her.
