This is a pretty good reason to stop getting rid of your pubic hair.

Despite how counter-intuitive it may be, on the whole, humans seem to really love removing their pubic hair. But is its removal leaving you susceptible to health problems like STIs?

According to AsapSCIENCE creators Mitchell Moffit and Gregory Brown, it just might be.

So is pubic hair good for you?

In a video recently posted to their Youtube channel, the Canadian duo outline the pros and cons of keeping things au naturel, as well as exploring why it is we have pubic hair in the first place. After all, we have to assume that evolution kept it there for a reason.

When defending the importance of the bush’s place, ASAPScience argue that shaving and waxing creates “microscopic abrasions on the skin which can become infected and even transmit a myriad of sexually transmitted diseases.

“It has been theorised that pubic hair removal also correlates directly with the rise of gonorrhea, chlamydia and HPV infections,” they say.

Interestingly, instances of public lice (or crabs) has decreased since waxing and shaving began to rise in popularity.

But let’s not forget the other issues that come along with hair removal. There’s tenderness, itching, ingrown hairs and horror stories that Embarrassing Bodies dream about hearing.

Post continues after video…

And infections aside, the most common genital injuries that make it to American hospital emergency rooms are the result of pubic hair removal.

OUCH.

On the topic of why we have pubic hair, ASAPScience say there are two main theories that the scientists back.

The first is that it protects us from friction during intercourse and acts as a sign to show the world our bodies are ready for procreation.

The other theory is that the pubic hair allows your apocrine glands (found only in your armpits and crotch regions) to secrete a special sexy scent that differs from body odour and is thought to allure potential partners.

Body odours aside, would a heightened risk of contracting an STI stop you from waxing or shaving?

We talk about pubic hair and all its different forms below…

This all originated in pornography including Playboy beginning decades ago where they feature young women with shaved pubic hair to ,make them look like little girls for men.Playboy( the other popular pornographic magazines copied them) had 1000's of cartoons for over 40 years making jokes about fathers and uncles incesting their little daughters and nieces, gang rapes of women and little girls, including some pictures and many articles promoting this as normal as well.Plus cartoons making jokes of women being sexually harassed by their male bosses often on his desk in the work place.

INTERVIEW WITH DR.LINNEA SMITH ON PORNOGRAPHY HARMS

http://www.talkintrash.com/...

In this great 1990's article feminist psychiatrist Dr.Linnea Smith talks about the large amount of research studies on the harms of pornography in general Playboy Magazine promoting and normalizing sexual abuse of women and children for decades.

Years ago around 2009 I read a Salon.com article by a woman who described how she can tell her male partner uses pornography. She said they were very mechanical and not affectionate and would jack hammer away. A guy in the comments said, how disturbing it is that women in pornography all have shaved genitals,he said I mean isn't women having pubic hair what separates them physically from little girls? He said there are a lot of psychologically messed up things going on in pornography.

"The first is that it protects us from friction during intercourse and acts as a sign to show the world our bodies are ready for procreation."

The first part of the sentence is false, my girlfriend complained it hurt her due to friction, so I shaved mine off and wore oil.

As for the second statement, I would have thought breasts and more shapely hips were more of an indicator of maturity for procreation. All without removing any clothing.

Humans and their predecessors haven't always worn clothes.
Not surprisingly, all the changes that occur in puberty signify that someone is ready to procreate.
"Ready' of course can have different meanings. depending on the context used here. Physically ready? More than likely. Emotionally ready? Probably not.

Baby girls aren't born with any pubic hair, but when young teen girls get their periods, along with hips and breasts is when they get pubic hair and develop a woman's body and can get pregnant.
