How much blood do you really lose during a period?

What is normal? And how much is too much?

 

We’re often too embarrassed to broach questions about our periods. It’s certainly not something often discussed in public forums.

Even though we experience it monthly, it’s really hard to measure just how much blood we lose each period.

In this video, Dr Ginni Mansberg generously demonstrates the average loss of blood, with the use of tomato sauce.

When there is clot - you have lost a lot.... i.e. Too much. The point of excreting the lining of the uterus is physiological and anticlotting factors are released to make the process as smooth as possible. When there are clots it signifies too much blood lost for you. Get thee to your GP, +/- pelvic ultrasound !
