Gal Gadot was paid a shamefully low salary for Wonder Woman.

There’s no doubt Wonder Woman is the feminist superhero movie the world didn’t know it needed.

Earning an estimated $US500 million, its success can be largely credited to Gal Gadot’s performance as our first superhero leading lady.

So, why did Wonder Woman herself only earn $US300,00o?

Yes, there are a host of other financial opportunities that come with being, in our opinion, the most kick arse superhero in history. And yes, $US300,000 (just under $AU400,000) is a lot of money in the real world.

But compared to how much the film has made, it's a drop in the ocean. And we can't help but wonder if the uncertainty of a female superhero had something to do with it.

While Gal's pay cheque is reportedly on par with what Chris Evans took home for his first appearance in Captain America, it's also considerably less than many of our other favourite comic book characters when they too were making their start in their respective franchises.

Robert Downey Jr. (Iron Man), Henry Cavill (Superman, Man of Steel) and Christian Bale (Batman, Batman Begins) all reportedly earned between $US9-40 million for their superhero performances.

Listen: The Binge explains Foxtel's latest streaming service, Foxtel Now, and how it stacks up to Netflix (post continues after audio...)

Sure, Gal was an unknown quantity. But can we please have a little more faith in the power of strong and authentic female characters, and the professional actors who bring them to life?

Yes, $US300,000 is a nice chunk of change. It's also a 1,666th of what the film has currently made at the box office. Go figure.

Do you think Gal should have been paid more for her Wonder Woman performance?

Hmmm maybe it is because she is an unknown. You can't compare her to Downey Junior who has been acting successfully since the 80s. Or Bale who has a string of successful movies. She will get her chance to demand more money now she has had a successful movie. We all have to start at the bottom. You even admit that Chir Evans got paid the same paltry amount for captain America, which kind of kills your paranoid sexism theory. No one, regardless of genitals, walks into an entry level job on their first day and demands the same pay check as the CEO.

Oooooh, let's see.... Gal's the star of the show, she's a pretty decent actor, she went through SAS style strenuous training to learn the fighting style and stunt work required and wore a leather swimsuit outdoors during an English winter without a word of complaint or diva behaviours.

...OF COURSE SHE SHOULD HAVE BEEN PAID MORE !!!

Apparently she was paid twice as much as Chris Hemsworth got for the first Thor movie.

They both got short changed then.
