If she had her time again, Fran Drescher would completely change The Nanny finale.

She was the flashy gal from Flushing, who became the nanny named Fran.

After six years of will they/won’t they The Nanny gave us what was seemingly the perfect ending.

Maxwell Sheffield and Fran Fine were married and they had two children of their own. In the finale episode they were heading off to California to start a new life together.

Even Niles and C.C. Babcock had put aside their differences and tied the knot.

But speaking to Bronte Coy at News.com.au, star and co-creator Fran Drescher, has admitted she would have preferred a completely different ending.

“I would have written a great season finale, but not changed the dynamic of the relationship [between Fran and Maxwell],” she explained to News.com.au.

“So the show would have ended with her being the nanny of the kids, and him being her boss but the two of them sharing a certain attraction that never got realised.”

Sadly though, Drescher never got to make that call. The network pushed for the picture perfect ending, hoping it would lead to a boost in ratings.

Now, almost 20 years after the show wrapped up, there’s talk of a reboot.

“We’re talking about it,” Drescher told Entertainment Tonight. “We’re working on a very big project. It’s going to be very exciting for the fans, but I’m not at liberty to announce it yet. But it’s gonna be big.”

Drescher, now 61, says The Nanny would look a lot different today.

“She would’ve maybe gotten involved in more things [that] Fran Drescher is involved with,” Drescher explained.

“All kinds of things from environmental issues, to health, to civil liberties, that’s what I think Fran would be doing now — opening her big Queens mouth for the greater good.

“The thing is our show would be the same characters 20 years later. We can’t just pick up where we left off. But in a way, that could be really good because the show can have a whole fresh bend to it.”

Can't say i'd be watching The Nanny for biting political insight. It wasn't that kind of show. I didn't mind it for a bit of mindless fun.
Family Ties did political stuff really well. As did the first 9-odd seasons of the Simpsons.
