Just days after his sister-in-law Kate died by suicide in New York, comedian David Spade has returned to the stand-up stage in California.
According to E! News, Spade performed at the Brea Improv Comedy Club in California, some five days after the 55-year-old was found dead in her New York apartment.
“Thank you for coming, it was a rough week, but I didn’t want to cancel and I appreciate you all coming out here,” he reportedly told the crowd. “And, if my jokes don’t work then I get sort of a free pass.”
The news outlet also reports he finished by thanking the crowd, once again, for coming out.
“Thank you for coming out, I appreciate it.”
In the immediate aftermath of her death, David Spade shared photos with his sister-in-law on both Twitter and Facebook.
“Katy at my book signing. I love this pic of her. So pretty. I don’t think everyone knew how f–king funny she was,” he tweeted alongside a photo of the two. “It’s a rough world out there people. Try to hang on.”
In another posted on Instagram, the comedian spoke of his love of Kate’s sense of humour.
“Fuzzy picture but I love it. Kate and I during Christmas family photos. We had so much fun that day. She was so sharp and quick on her feet,” he captioned it. “She could make me laugh so hard. I still can’t believe it.”
