Children in detention were asked to draw pictures of their lives.

Children in Detention Centres were asked to draw pictures of their experience. The images were obtained as part of an inquiry into Children in Immigration Detention by the Human Rights Commission.

What is drawn in the pictures is absolutely heartbreaking.

Very sad, but in reality they wouldn't be in this situation if their own parents hadn't of put them in this position, so yes it's easy to point the finger and blame the Australian government, but really it should start at home and what got them here in the first place!!

"What got them here in the first place?" Are you kidding me? Try: fleeing from a regime where they fear for their lives and are exercising the right that every human has a right to in seeking asylum. "Very sad" you say so dismissively. How uncaring Australians have become. Australia - look good and hard at yourself in the mirror. It's not pretty.

Merlo, your response is embarrassing. Do you really not realise that people are having to flee from persecution in order to survive?! We have a moral responsibility to ensure that persons arriving on our shores are treated humanely. In the case of children, that responsibility should not be taken lightly. These children are showing evidence of trauma and child abuse which our country is responsible for inflicting upon them. They have come to us for humanity and are facing persecution at our hands. Shame on you for your ignorant comments that promote child abuse!

Heartbreaking. Both major parties seem to want to demonise these powerless people. I am ashamed at our treatment of asylum seekers. They do not deserve this.
