54-year-old actress Brigitte Nielsen has announced her fifth pregnancy.

If celebrity pregnancy news wasn’t exciting enough, Brigitte Nielsen has announced her fifth pregnancy at the age of 54.

The actress has been with her current husband Mattia Dessi, 39, since 2005. This will be their first child together.

The actress has been married five times, and is already the mother to four children: 34-year-old Julian Winding, 28-year-old Killian Gastineau, 25-year-old Douglas Meyer, and 23-year-old Raoul Meyer Jr.

Some Instagram users have expressed skepticism over whether her pregnancy was a natural process, insisting Brigitte instead reached into her collection of frozen eggs.

“How is this possible? Is the baby gon come out good?” One Instagram user responded to Brigitte’s post. Well if there’s one thing we’re hoping for, it’s that the baby gon come out better than your grasp of English.

Though Brigitte’s pregnancy came as a surprise to many due to her mature age, she isn’t the first celebrity of her age group to announce a shock pregnancy.

Eva Longoria is nine months pregnant at the age of 43, and 48-year-old Rachel Weisz announced she was expecting a child with husband Daniel Craig just last month.

So. Many. Babies.

Well, she ‘defied the fertility gods’ with a little help from modern science, right? Of course it was either a frozen egg of her own, or one donated. The odds of her conceiving unassisted at her age would be pretty enormous. It’s not really our business, but at the same time, we need to be honest about what is realistic for most women. The fact is, getting pregnant in your 50s is very unlikely without a lot of intervention. Ultimately, though, I’m sure this is a much loved and wanted baby, and best of luck to them.

A family member fell pregnant at 51 and again at 53 entirely naturally. Both babies perfectly healthy and adorable. Although rare, it is possible.

I’m not saying it’s impossible, but it’s very unusual. In most cases of a woman getting pregnant at this age, it’s much more likely that there was some sort of intervention.

The chances of falling pregnant without assistance with one's own egg after the age of 50 is bordering on zero percent. It's very nice you can cite a couple of anecdotes about one person, but that doesn't change the scientific fact that women who conceive naturally at that age are as rare as hen's teeth. Given the lack of medical literacy in the general public, it is important the realities of a situation are clearly set out in these contexts, lest we establish incredibly unrealistic expectations.
