A 2yo boy is fighting for his life after being attacked by a taipan snake.

A two-year-old Queensland boy is fighting for his life after being bitten by a taipan in his backyard.

Suffering cardiac arrest after being bitten three times by the snake, Eli was declared dead for six minutes before eventually being resuscitated by paramedics and taken to hospital in Brisbane on 26 September.

Considered the world's second most venomous snake, experts believe the taipan was in the family's Agnes Water's backyard hunting food when it attacked Eli, who was collecting egg's from the family's chook pen.

"It was tragic," Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 staffer Richie Gilbert told The Daily Mail.

"The snake would have probably had its head in a hole looking for rats or mice. They are a shy but they can strike repeatedly and very quickly if they feel threatened."

And with Eli's medical bills now mounting, the community has come together to help out with family friend Blake Hyland launching a GoFundMe page on Sunday.

"The situation has caused Eli's family to have to drop everything to be by his side at the hospital which is almost 500 kilometres away," Hyland wrote, adding, "All funds raised will go to Eli's medical bills along with his hopeful recovery."

And now, less than 24 hours after launching the campaign, almost half of the family's $20,000 goal has been raised.

Sunshine Coast Snake Catchers 24/7 has also scheduled a snake safety demonstration for the rural Queensland community to educate people about how to behave around snakes and what to do in the case of an attack.

Except from specialists, ultrasounds, blood tests...
Healthcare is NOT free.
Also, it explicitly stated that he is 500km from home. Money lost is still money lost.

They probably don't get paid while being at their sons bedside. Rent still has to be paid. And they might need to also be paying for a motel while so far away from home.

I was in hospital for two weeks, just that short time financially killed me. Not everyone can afford to have huge amounts of savings. It would be nice, but not realistic for most.
