The #fitso picture that's been shared million of times - for a positive reason.

“Every body has it’s awkward moments — be kind to yourself and others.”

When Imgur user SomewhereUnderTheWater posted a series of pictures of her body on the internet, she did not expect more than one million people to see the images in the days following.

But when you see what she posted, you’ll understand why so many women around the world have shared the pictures with their friends

And why? Because she dared to show what a stomach actually looks like.

Unlike the usual ‘perfect’ fitspo bodies that litter the internet – and show a before photo and nothing more – this image dared to be a little more normal.

SomewhereUnderTheWater wrote that it was an image she hoped would encourage others to also love their bodies

We aren’t barbies. We are made of flesh and blood. These are all the same body — my body. I have worked hard for this body and I am proud of this body. In a world where we are surrounded by the images of our friends highlight reel sometimes it’s good to see a little reality so we can keep our expectations real.

No matter where you are on your body’s journey, be proud and love yourself. Make goals because you love your body not because you hate it.

And judging by the comments, that’s exactly what she’s done.

More of this in the future, please Internet.

"because she dared to show what a stomach actually looks like" ?? i think you mean she dared to showed show what HER stomach actually looks like.... when she's not sucking it in or standing up straight etc. this photo shows that "fitspo" photos dont always show the reality of what the person actually look like,

"this photo dared to be a little normal"??? so i'm not normal because my stomach doesn't look like that?

also i barely even look at my own stomach.... there is no need to focus so much on people's body parts. we are more than what we look like. there are more important things in life. focus on how you feel and fit you are and how you can use your body...... looks mean nothing.

There is an obvious focus on body dissatisfaction in the Australian community. So, clearly appearance is important to some people. It is not for any one to say they are wrong or lesser for having those worries. My observation is you are trying to poke holes in what is supposed to be a story to help highlight the many sides of a "fitspo" body. It's okay if you don't look like that, you don't need to. We ARE more than we look - We are the energy we put out and the way we communicate. We are the messages we send and our responses to things.
I really don't think many people will find this to be an article that perpetrates the body dissatisfaction culture. If so, the message was truly lost on them.

Great... But what I'd do to NOT have all this focus on our freaking bodies. What does a real stomach look like? Whatever you see when you look down. I wonder if you guys can see that you are doing the exact same thing that you protest against when you point at a certain type of body and praise it, and then have digs at other kinds of bodies. C'mon. Less focus on bodies, more focus on the ten squillion other reasons women are rad. Body love campaigns just perpetuate what they're trying to fight. It's still a focus on comparison, and does the damage they're attempting to undo. This included. You had a go at Hilary Duff, but praise this woman... It doesn't make sense.
