Best and worst of the week

Well hello Friday, fancy meeting you here.  I am very excited and stupidly nervous being in charge of introducing Best and Worst for this week.  Here goes ….

On the news front this week, we’ve looked at the Weiner photos and what might have been the cringiest PM interview ever, as well as the immunisation you need to get and the reclaiming of offensive words.

We discussed the things we’ve quit and what we do with the hair down there, as well as our unlucky clothes and men with beards. We chatted about boredomMasterchef and the new phenomenon that is Wombtube.

We offered our advice on how to deal with a friend’s affair, read about jealousy and looked at what’s happening to our men.

We also reached the 10,000 mark for Facebook followers and held a competition to celebrate- you can find the Mamamia Facebook page here.

You can catch up on what’s been happening in the news this week here and here. And if you’d like to see what Mia’s been up to, you can check out our open post of the week here.

Finally, if you want to take a look at the videos we’ve been loving this week, you can go here and here.

Now – onto the best and worst bits of the week. I’ll start…

BEST: Last Sunday my friend Emily-Jade emailed to tell me I made it onto the Sunday Mail’s Top 50 Happiest People list. I’ll never, ever be listed on a “Best Dressed” list. Trust me. But to be included on this list just made me really, well, happy. And proud of myself too. So that’s one best.  My other best is the fact I now work for Mamamia. However great you imagine it to be behind-the-scenes here, double it. They are an amazing, generous, hilarious, stupidly hardworking team. I feel incredibly blessed.

WORST:  I don’t really have a worst this week so I’m going to go with being at home in Adelaide while the rest of the team got to play make-up with Zoe Foster. I’ve never met Zoe in person but she just looks like someone who radiates positive energy.  So while Mia, Lana, Nicky and Nat played with lipsticks and blushes and bombarded Zoe with questions about her new book Amazing Face, I watched Ava mash banana into her hair. Excellent. (That said, I happen to know loads of video was shot … expect some major Zoe Foster Q&A’s in the near future).

ON MY MIND:  Getting pregnant. If I’m not pregnant this month, we’re starting IVF. I know we’re lucky that we can even afford IVF but I have to say I’m apprehensive about the injections.  Are my hormones going to send me so out of control I release my inner-Naomi Campbell?  Oh Lord ….

What were your best and worst bits of the week?

And while you’re contemplating that, maybe flick through the pictures we’re talking about this week…

Worst: A friend of a friend gave birth to a sleeping baby girl. Reading the notices in the paper just breaks my heart and sends me to tears. I dont know how anyone could surive a horror of this. I spent the morning crying and rubbing my 20week pregnant tummy and talking to my little munchkin.
Best: Made the half way mark in my pregnancy and finally stopped vomitting and have started feeling slight movements in there! Hubby reckons its wind, but he just thinks hes been funny.
OMM: WORK! so over it, despite spending the past 4 months sick and tired, have not taken a sick day off work due to pregnancy. Despite this, I have been placed on their 'pregnancy plan' (due to high level of leave amongst other pregnant people). I now have to constantly have discussions on how I can be managed to ensure I turn up to work etc. They say its too make my time at work easier and it is there to support me etc, but I just feel like they are putting so much pressure on me and I have had the guilts put on me that has scared me having any days off. I just feeling like snapping at them! If i am sick I will take time off (my entitlements!) and if the doctor recommends time off i will take it, otherwise just leave me alone to do my job and enjoy my pregnancy! I have never abused sick leave in the past so I just wish they would give me a bit of credit. ggrrr

Also, can someone tell me how to read older comments? You scroll down to the bottom of the page and it say "Showing comments 1 - 139 of 198" - but how do I get to read the rest? I cant see an obvious thing to click on to go back to rest of comments?

I'm so sorry to hear about your friend. Good luck with your pregancy, as well.

Oh that sounds so dodgy. Do you have a union you can call? The whole "pregnancy plan" seems a bit out of line. Surely people have a right to reasonable adjustment due to their circumstances. I can't imagine that forcing you to be at work even when you are slightly unwell does anything to improve their (or your) productivity.

I am so sorry for your friend of a friend ineedaname, there really isn't anything anyone can do for that. It is just something terrible that they have to try to get through. Wishing them some happiness and strength for the months to come.

Good luck with your pregnancy! And good luck with your workplace - so annoying that in this day and age they would make it hard for ladies to enjoy a stress-free pregnancy.

Hi Ineedaname.

So sorry about your friend's baby and I hope your work troubles are soon solved.

On the bottom right hand side of the page should be numbers 1 and 2 (and maybe more if there are thousands of comments). I hope you find them easily and good luck :)
