Best and worst: How's your week been?

By FREYA KING

Welcome to this week’s Best and Worst. It’s your chance to reflect and share what’s going on in your world; the things that made you happy and the things that made you accidentally lose all faith in humanity (I am looking at you, ‘triple-shot-soy-3/4-piccolo-with-honey-and-can-i-please-have-that-right-now-even-though-I-am-at-the-end-of-this-very-long-line-I-am-very-busy-and-important’ lady.)

I’ll go first to show you all how it’s done.

Best: My friend has discovered a new talent. An amazing, entertaining, brightens-up-my-day talent. He takes stupid, embarrassing, random  photos of me and puts them next to pictures of animals I look like. Top of the list are pug dogs. Seriously, the resemblance is uncanny. If you need to borrow my best to brighten your week take a look through this gallery!

(ALSO PORRIDGE! COLD WEATHER = PORRIDGE! HOORAY!!)

Worst: (apart from the fact I just posted pictures comparing my ridiculously attractive self to various animals on the internet…)

Obviously all the terrible news this week. It makes me appreciate how lucky I am to live in a country like Australia, where these scenes of death and violence are so shocking and foreign to us.

But also on a more self indulgent note: people who are rude to hospitality workers! STOP IT! As a Journalism student  professional barista/waiter/bartender I just do not have time for anyone who feels that they have the right to talk down to someone whose job it is to provide them with a service. Also people who are especially demanding without acknowledging that they are being so or have no concept of how to order off the menu… THERE IS A MENU FOR A REASON! NO WE DO NOT HAVE ANY DRY RICE CRACKERS WE ARE A COFFEE SHOP! End rant.

So now it’s over to you. What’s your best and worst for the week? Any animal that you share an undeniable likeness to?

Best: I got told I was getting a bonus at work and I also received a cheque for $100 I won in that's life magazine last year. :D

Worst: I'm getting super heckled at work. I got told I got a bonus today for being over 150% sales target and no more than 5 mins later I was getting told I need to get more referrals, it's not enough :/ I also have a second job and they have offered me some day shifts on a Tuesday and Wednesday outside of the work hours in my current main job. I told my boss on Saturday and she said that she wasn't allowing it and I had to leave myself free in case they needed me on those days. I'm so frustrated and I know I need to leave (purely because my mental health is worsening) but there are minimal jobs in this town so I have to take what I can get.

OMM: Tossing up whether to stay at my current hated job or ask at my second job about the possibility of getting permanent hours or even go back to full time study and go back to Centrelink and minimal hours at my second job and try to make it work. OR do I attempt to go for a job that I'm nowhere near qualified for and hope that if I get it they give me a huge help so I know what to do :S

Any advice?

Best: I booked a flight to Sydney for next weekend to visit my grandparents. I'm taking my baby to visit all of my relatives he hasn't met yet. To say I'm excited is an understatement!

Worst: today I was knocked out with the flu. I can't rest since I need to fit five days worth of work into two because of said Sydney trip on Wednesday. Plus I'm a mum. Enough said...

OMM: a family friend died last week in Sydney and his funeral is on while I'm there. I'm not sure I should go because we weren't all that close but I don't know if I will regret it later if I miss it and had the opportunity to say my goodbye...
