Best and worst of the week.

By NATALIA HAWK

You know what, my lovely fellow MM’ers? Friday is my favourite day on the site. Not because it’s just before the weekend (well, that helps too) but because it’s Best and Worst time. It’s like a weekly catch-up with girlfriends over dinner… only there’s no dinner and there are, well, hundreds of you. But still.

Best and worst is the place where you can come and share what’s been happening in your world. No matter how petty or how significant, it’s all welcome here – we’re listening and we’re ready to offer (virtual) hugs and love.

I’ll kick us off because I’m nice like that.

BEST: It seems like winter really hit this week – I’ve pulled out the fluffy winter blankets and invested in a new pair of ugg boots. Ski resorts across Australia and NZ have started posting pictures of their snowfall, which is excellent to see considering I have booked a rather pricey skiing holiday for August.

BONUS BEST: The Mamamia Facebook page hit 50,000 likes yesterday which was exciting, to say the least. If you don’t like it already – hop on over here and click that button so that we can reach the 60,000 mark and get excited all over again.

WORST: Just the 3000 word essay I need to tackle this weekend. Someone get me a cocktail.

What was your best and worst of the week?

Editor’s note (AKA pleasant request):

Howdy ho neighbourinos.

We are running a fantabulous Mamamia survey.

Why, you ask? Well, we want to know more about you, so that we can serve you up the best possible content each and every day on Mamamia.

Also, as you know advertising is a daily reality of the media world and we want to make sure we’re delivering you ads for stuff you actually care about and are interested in.

If you can spare us 5 minutes to fill this little baby out, it would be very much appreciated. In fact you would have our unending gratitude plus we will send Ryan Gosling to your house as an expression of our thanks.*

Click here to access the survey.

Thanks in advance.

Jam – Ed.

*Okay, the whole Ryan Gosling thing is big fat lie but there ARE some rather excellent prizes to be won for those who decide to get their survey on. Have fun!

I haven't done a best & worst in a while but here goes:

Best 1: My parents arrive this week! I haven't seen them since I left Australia in 2011!

Best 2: My parents are staying with us for about 10 days then we're off to France together to meet up with my sister, her husband and my nieces who I also haven't seen for years! We're off to Nice, Cannes and Paris.

Worst 1: FIL is unwell in hospital back in Australia. He has throat cancer and possible lung cancer. He just had an operation to remove his voice box and is in intensive care. It's been hard on husband being so far away, so we will definitely be returning to Australia for a holiday at the end of this year if not sooner.

Worst 2: English weather... I know I better get used to it but it's just rubbish! I was actually hot the other day and it was 15! Uhhhhhh I miss proper summers!

I don't have a child yet but it's in my future. I have a question for the mummies: can you have a baby and not have it ever have a dummy? Can that be done? Just wondering. It sounds like a major hassle to un-dummy a toddler.

You will thank God for the dummy - it can save your sanity. If they want to suck they will - my daughter was a thumb sucker until at least Year 2 and then she stopped herself. My husband used to complain that he had a dummy but let me tell you when you are on a 12 hour road trip, you will be pushing that dummy into your baby's mouth... anything to stop the screaming!!!

My son stopped the dummies at Christmas when he was 3y8m - he only ever had a dummy for bed, but we told him that Santa needed his dummies to give to the babies and bought him some Buzz Lightyear drinking cups. Easy peasy - never looked back! Much easier getting rid of the dummy v the thumb.

Also, don't worry so much - people will judge but relax and do what works for you and you will be an awesome Mum!

My two year old son never had a dummy. It can be done :)

Neither of mine had dummies. One is a thumb sucker, one isn't. Both self settlers. We didn't use dummies amongst other reasons because we had a dog and I knew I'd forever be washing/replacing them.

Yep my baby doesn't have a dummy. Simply just never got her one, she doesn't know what she's missing and we don't have to get up constantly to stick it back in. That being said tho, she is a good sleeper and self-settler.
