Indonesia: Are Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran next to face the firing squad?

Breaking news.

Update:

Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran are not listed in the next group to be executed in Indonesia according to the head of the country’s parliamentary committee Azis Syamsuddin, ABC News reports.

The clarification follows earlier reports that the Indonesain attorney-general had told the committee the Australian drug traffickers would be among those facing the firing squad.

According to Mr Syamsuddin, he did not list any nationalities when appearing before the committee, only the location that was considered for the executions.

Previously we reported:

Bali Nine members Andrew Chan and Myuran Sukumaran will be among the next group of death row prisoners to face the firing squad, 7 News reports.

Indonesian Attorney-General HM Prasetyo told a parliamentary committee that his department was currently planning the next round of executions – they will take place next week.

Bali Nine families speak of their grief and plead to Tony Abbott for help.

“We are still finding the right time for the next executions of citizens of France, Ghana, Cordova, Brazil, The Philippines, Australia and one Indonesian,” he told a parliamentary committee.

While he didn’t name Chan or Sukumaran specifically, they are the only Australians on death row, and he has said previously they will be executed together.

The next series of executions are likely to be held on the Central Java prison island of Nusakambangan despite obstacles, according to Mr Prasetyo.

These included the intrusion of human rights activists and electronic media reporters trying to disguise themselves as fishermen, he said.

“We can prevent them from getting close to the execution location.”

Chan and Sukumaran’s lawyers are preparing to lodge their final appeals.

Just get it over with! If the execution was carried out 10 years ago at time of sentence, there would be a lot less outrage now. They did the crime, its time to face the consequences. They are disgracing the Indonesia people's perception of Australians by being a drug smuggler. Good riddance!

That's a very calas comment. Are you actually saying that these two humans deserve to have bullets in their chests? Come on, Australia as a nation has put its foot down and said that we oppose the death penalty in all our states and bills have been passed recently to federally outlaw this type of punishment, so if we are so opposed to it why do we sit on our hands and let this happen to our citizens overseas? I understand that they 'did the crime' but surely the 'time' isn't equal to 8 bullets in their chests. It is sad that the world lacks so much compassion.

Maybe they should've thought of that before trying to smuggle drugs out of Indonesia where they do believe in the death penalty.

Imagine the uproar if somebody came to Australia committed a crime, and then didn't get punished as we see fit because their country took care of them? Ridiculous.
