Steven Avery has written a new letter to his "supporters" from prison.

Stephen Avery, the man at the centre of Making a Murder is currently serving a life sentence for the murder of 25-year-old photographer Teresa Halbach — but he continues to maintain his innocence.

In case you’re one of the shrinking number people who haven’t seen the show, in 1985 Avery was wrongfully convicted of an assault and attempted murder.

He was later exonerated, but in 2005, when Halbach went missing, Avery was instantly the prime suspect in her death.

You can read about the case here.

Did he do it? Well, that’s the question that has viewers of the show divided bitterly divided — but some were so convinced of his innocence they started a petition to have him pardoned.

And it is to those people, his “supporters”, that Avery has now addressed a letter.

It’s short, hand-written and dated the 29th of January, 2016.

Avery’s new attorney Kathleen T. Zellner shared it on her Twitter account with the “SA thrilled about chance of new forensic testing — like innocent men always are.”

In case you can’t read the scrawl it says: “I want every forensic test possible done, because I am innocent.”

Regardless of whether or not they think he did it, most viewers would concede that there are holes in the case against Avery — which could, perhaps, be cleared up with forensic testing. (You can read about what the film makers think about that here).

It seems everyone has a theory when it comes to Making a Murderer, if you missed our recent post about it, this is probably the most compelling one we’ve read to date.
