Shannon Noll might be coming second to Guy Sebastian. Again.

NOLLSY.

He’s about as Australian as flies on a dead kangaroo.

A Southern Cross tattoo. A twangy accent. He was in Australian Idol, FFS. (Now read all of that in the heaviest Australian accent you can, and you’ll be ready for your can of Fosters).

The people have spoken. Well, signed. A guy from Brisbane, Patrick Connors, started an online petition to have Shannon Noll announced as the 2016 Australian representative in the Eurovision song contest.

The 2015 rep for Australia was Guy Sebastian. If you’ve got your trivia straight, Guy beat Shannon in the 2003 Australian Idol grand final, to take out first place and a successful singing career, leaving Shannon in second place to sing a song about a car. A big, black shiny car.

But Shannon’s fans are crying, “What About…Him?” (Okay, it’s not the name of the song, but we tried). They think that Shannon would finally, FINALLY have his chance to prove himself, and not get a crappy fifth-place medal like ol’ Guy Sebastian did.

“Can you honestly think of one man that embodies the Australian ideals of persistence and mateship more than Shannon Noll? A measly fifth place wouldn’t be enough for Nollsy, the man would very well lead us to 1st given his calibre.”

The petition needs only 100 more signatures to reach it’s goal of 500, at which point it will… um… be approved by Ian ‘Dicko’ Dickinson and Mark Holden? We don’t know.

But it’s fun to watch. Shannon Noll is receiving some good-humoured attention on social media lately, becoming a trending meme for the last couple of months. Why, we’re not sure. But if anyone can handle a bit of a chuck under the chin, it’s Nollsy.

Shannon Noll for Eurovision. Eh, why not?
