Your story is very common & too familiar to many people out there like myself. During my time I worked with some of the most abusive, immature & toxic people in the world. The bullying & power tripping culture needs to stop within the beauty industry & it needs more of a corporate vibe/influence to it in order to succeed with professionalism.
I worked from one bad salon after another. The main issues I've encountered was management not standing up for people getting bullied & enabling the bullies. Sometimes the owners were the bullies themselves. According to the laws in Australia, bullying is illegal however proving that you're being bullied is a challenge in itself. The salon owners will do whatever they can to cover up the problems because they don't want to let someone go who brings in $250k+ per year into their business & risk ruining their reputation. Often their main focus is keeping their doors open rather than making sure your working conditions are adequate.
To be completely honest I don't look back much on my hairdressing days as I'm much more happier then I ever was. Sure I still have my hairdressing skills & knowledge but I don't intend on returning to the industry anytime soon
