Less than a fortnight after Katie Holmes filed for divorce in New York, the pair’s lawyers are reporting that the divorce had been settled. Signed, sealed and delivered – one gets the ski lodge, the other takes the Malibu Barbie style beach house, one gets the proceeds from another Hollywood blockbuster and the other gets to escape the clutches of Scientology.

Here is what the lawyers had to say…

Lawyers for Team Tom: “The Tom Cruise-Katie Holmes case has been settled with a signed agreement. Tom is really pleased we got there, and so am I.”

Lawyers for Team Katie: “This case has been settled and the agreement has been signed.  We are thrilled for Katie and her family and are excited to watch as she embarks on the next chapter of her life….We thank Tom’s counsel for their professionalism and diligence that helped bring about this speedy resolution.”

Speed is exactly right. Hollywood divorce settlements are notoriously drawn out. Even in the humble lives of us ordinary folk, it’s pretty much unheard of that a satisfactory outcome is reached within a fortnight. It makes us wonder if all those marriage contract and complicated pre-nup rumours are in fact true.

Just like that! Only 11 days after she filed for divorce. Can it really be that easy to divorce Tom Cruise? Or was precisely how it would all go down outlined in the prenup? Couldn’t have been that easy: In his announcement of the deal to people, Holmes’s attorney thanked six other lawyers by name for their help. Of course there’s no official word on money or custody; the couple of five-and-a-half years issued a statement saying they’re “working together” toward daughter Suri’s “best interests” but plan to keep the details private.

The couple have released a joint statement, which reads:

“We are committed to working together as parents to accomplish what is in our daughter Suri’s best interests.

“We want to keep matters affecting our family private and express our respect for each other’s commitment to each of our respective beliefs and support each other’s roles as parents.”

But the question we’re all asking is… who gets custody of their daughter 6-year-old daughter Suri and will she continue to be raised as a Scientologist?

No official statement with the details of the divorce have been released yet but here is what TMZ are saying:

Katie will have what amounts to primary physical custody, but Tom has significant custodial time with his daughter.

A report claiming that Suri must be in the presence of Katie’s bodyguard and nanny when she is around Tom is “absolutely, 100% false.”

The custodial provisions of the agreement are extremely detailed, and religion is one of the topics.  We’re told there are restrictions on what Tom and Katie can discuss with Suri on the subject of religion, including Scientology, however, those restrictions are eased the older Suri gets.
