Most insensitive crowdfunding campaign… ever?
The sister of accused mass-murderer Dylann Roof set up a crowdfunding campaign for her wedding, but has now taken it down.
Good.
Last month, Roof — who has now been revealed as a white supremacist — sat for an hour in the Emanuel African Methodist Episcopal Church in Charleston before reportedly opening fire on the congregation and killing nine black people.
Read about it here: A 21-year-old man has been arrested in Charleston hate crime shooting.
His sister, Amber, cancelled her wedding, which was supposed to take place four days later, because of the massacre.
“Our wedding day was supposed to be the most important and special day of our lives,” the woman identifying as Amber wrote on her GoFundMe page.
“It was supposed to be the start of our lives together with our new family. Our day was the exact opposite. Our wedding day was full of sorrow, pain, and shame, tainted by the actions of one man.”
This may well be true, but in the list of victims affected by this despicable hate-crime, Amber doesn’t rank high on the list.

Classic narcissist. Not that surprising. But it's the only explanation for a seemingly-normal person who literally cannot imagine anything other than their own little perspective and how everything relates to them. It's quite chilling, considering who she's related to. But not surprising. Still, her fiancée, now there would be an interesting case study. Who goes along with that? Does it not occur to him that somewhere down the road there might be a situation where his wife goes ''yes, I did leave the baby in the bath, but I WAS TIRED AND WANTED A SNACK, OKAY??'' and genuinely not see any problem, because she is the centre of her universe.
I feel for her, I do, what an unimaginable, confusing, and traumatic situation to find yourself in. I've had this conversation about these mass shootings before, and would honestly prefer my brother was one of the innocent victims than the murderer. I'd rather lose him to death than lose him to someone I did not recognise, someone capable of taking a gun and gunning people down. That would be a special kind of horror, and the psychological impact on the family of the perpetrator is severe.
So I disagree that she and her family are lesser victims than the families of the people killed. The families of the perpatrators are often the forgotten victims. Her actions, however, are disgusting. Fundraising for her wedding? Seriously?! That's just disrespectful!
