Yesterday rumours were flying that Twilight star Kristen Stewart had cheated on her boyfriend of three years, Robert Pattinson, with Snow White and the Huntsman director, Rupert Sanders.
Overnight, 22-year-old Stewart confirmed the rumours with a public apology. She made a statement to People magazine after photos of her with Rubert Sanders emerged in the media. She said:
“I’m deeply sorry for the hurt and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone this has affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry.”
Forty-one-year-old Sanders – who is married with two children – also issued an apology. He said:
“I am utterly distraught about the pain I have caused my family. My beautiful wife and heavenly children are all I have in this world. I love them with all my heart. I am praying that we can get through this together.”

Sanders’ wife Liberty Ross starred in Snow White and the Huntsman alongside Stewart as her character’s mother. Yesterday Ross tweeted the Marilyn Monroe quote “sometimes bad things fall apart so better things can fall together,” before deleting her Twitter account.
Robert Pattinson hasn’t made an official statement, in an April issue of Vanity Fair he spoke generally about relationships, divorce and infidelity. “Life is not black and white. There are married couples that never see each other. Is that marriage?… But there’s a thing I’ve never got: That is, why do people cheat? I can understand the impulse, but not how you can keep two relationships going at the same time for long.”

She said sorry in public, that’s a very hard thing to do. I remember having an argument with my mum about a serious issue and I definitely did the wrong thing and it would have been alright for me to say sorry. I am fine with that. But it was soo much harder to do in front of my close family. And my close family are the people that I love most and share most things with in the world.
She never publicly said that she loved him until this point… But she said it out loud just to show how remorseful she feels… I mean it’s like taking a big step forward while their journey took it two steps back.
Also, she’s young. I know that’s not a good enough excuse, but sometimes you just don’t think clearly enough.
But on the other hand, I’m currently on the camp that thinks infidelity is an unforgiveable offense. It was unfair to every one involved what she did and who’s to say she may not do it again. And if she doesn’t learn soon then she may never learn the lesson that you shouldn’t hurt someone you love if you can avoid it. She may forget soon.
But Robert was clearly hurt… IT ISN’T FINE TO ‘hurt someoone you love most in the world’

I don’t get it. They have never publicly acknowledged that they were in a relationship, and kept everything private. Magazines run stories like that all the time, and are constantly photoshopping people who have never even met into the same photo. Why would she make a public statement about this? Everyone would have just assumed that it was the tabloids making this up, and she and Rob could have worked the whole thing out behind closed doors.

Have you seen the photos? Not just the one that looks somewhat innocent on the front page of Us weekly? The actual spread inside the magazine? Usually I don’t believe these stories.. but unfortunately she can’t ignore this one, because the photos don’t lie. They absolutely aren’t photoshopped. My guess is that it’s because Rob is ignoring her. If it was just a public apology it would have been the standard ‘This is a really difficult time, please respect my privacy’ blah blah blah. Speaking from my own experience – a boyfriend, I was with for four years in my mid to late 20s, cheated on me about a year into our relationship. I found out about this after the event and we stayed together, travelled overseas and ended up here in Australia. However, the same thing happened after a few more years and sure enough we separated…

I think at 22 we all still had a few things to learn and made a few big mistakes. (not saying 22 year olds aren’t intelligent or responsible, just the fact that as life goes on you tend to learn more….I still have a lot to learn at 34, but I’ve definitely learnt a lot in the last 12 years)
To be perfectly honest I feel sorry for her (and any young celebrity) who ends up having their mistakes published for millions to see and judge. Yes, no privacy may be part of the deal they make with the devil taking on certain careers, but stop a moment to think how badly you felt about doing something stupid when you were younger, then heap millions of strangers from all over the world criticising, abusing and judging you for it….. Everyone may think she is annoying or looks miserable all the time, but at the end of the day she is still a person and does still have feelings, and I hate to think how horrible she must be feeling right now. Sure, Steven Spielberg has more power than just about anyone he could cast (save for perhaps Tom Cruise), but the most powerful directors aren’t powerful because they are director’s, they’re powerful because they produce their films and often co-own production companies. Most film director’s are just hired hands.
Snow White & The Huntsman was Sanders first time directing a feature film. Charlize and Kristen would have had a huige amount of say in choosing the director. Kristen is far more experienced and connected than he is.

I think it brings up the whole paparazzi/gossip mag debate again – we’re all hungry for gossip and in giving us what we want this photographer has brought very public pain to two relationships and two children. Yes, yes, the people having the affair are in the wrong, but there’s something really off about how it’s all been aired for our enjoyment (and yes, I realise I’m one of the millions following the story!).
