It was 30 years ago today that John Lennon died. I remember that day in 1980. I was making Christmas decorations when the news came over the radio. I didn’t know too much about him but I recall my mother being absolutely shattered and playing nothing but his music for weeks and weeks.

It’s really bizarre, but whenever someone with such a high profile dies, it just seems so unreal. Like they are so far removed from my day to day life that it’s impossible that they would ever die.
I wasn’t alive when John Lennon died, but I remember Heath Ledger’s death really clearly. It was awful. I think because he was a friend of a friend (we’d never met) and he was also from Perth....it was so surreal. People like that aren’t meant to die. He was only in his twenties.
