According to Aussies, this is how long sex should last.

Oh, sex. It’s a complex, fraught, fantastic and sometimes terrifying activity. But for all its downfalls, it’s also one of humankind’s favourite pastimes.

We like it sitting up, we like it lying down. We like it in a bed and on the floor and sometimes if we’re desperate and just trying to get some privacy, even in a car.

And now, the amount of time we're wishing to spend on said pastime has been revealed, and honestly, it's somewhat astounding.

Released by online sex retailer Lovehoney to celebrate National Sex Day, data shows the vast majority of Australians believe sex should - in an ideal world - last for around 30 minutes.

Sadly, while 40 per cent of survey participants listed that as their ideal time, just 24 per cent said they were actually reaching that goal, but a further 47 per cent said they were reaching the halfway point at 15 minutes.

The research also showed that half of Australian couples are keeping things healthy by having sex at least once a week.

"Half an hour seems about right," one Mamamia staff said, adding, "too much time and I get tired or tune out."

Another agreed but added that when you're in the moment it's hard to keep track of what's actually happening and when things started.

"I have no concept of time," she said.
