Apologies to anyone who doesn’t want to be reminded, but the Christmas/New Year period is officially over, and 2017 is busy rollicking into action.
Case in point: the Golden Globe Awards are but a day away. Yep, awards season is well and truly upon us.
The Aussie nominees
Mel Gibson is up for Best Director for his World War II film Hacksaw Ridge, which itself is nominated for Best Film (Drama).
Nicole Kidman’s name has also been tossed into the hat — she’s in the running for Best Supporting Actress (Drama) for her role in Lion, an adaptation of Saroo Brierley’s book Long Way Home which is set in Tasmania and India. Kidman will also present an award on the night.
Joel Edgerton is nominated for Best Actor (Drama) for his role in the historical film Loving, going head-to-head with the likes of Denzel Washington and Casey Affleck.

When you can catch it
If you're available to watch the Golden Globes during the day — lucky you — FOX8 will be screening it live to air from 11am on Monday, when the red carpet kicks off. The ceremony itself begins at midday, so grab your snacks and settle in.
TV guides suggest the ceremony won't be broadcast on free-to-air TV, so the rest of us will just have to keep refreshing our Twitter feeds... or befriend people with pay TV.
