“I am proud to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like you to look up to.”

Beautiful words from Beyonce in a letter to First Lady Michelle Obama, posted on her website. There’s no explanation for why the letter was written, just the handwritten words.

Here’s the complete letter.

Beyonce's letter to Michelle Obama.

If you’re on a mobile device and can’t read the letter, here’s what it says:

Michelle is the ULTIMATE example of a truly strong African American woman.

She is a caring mother, she’s a loving wife, while at the same time, she is the FIRST LADY!!!!

No matter the pressure, and the stress of being under the microscope – she’s humble, loving and sincere.

She builds and nurtures her family, while also looking out for so many million sin so many ways.

Michelle, thank you so much for every single things that u do for us – I am proud to have my daughter grow up in a world where she has people like you to look up to.

Love, Beyonce.

Earlier this week, we introduced you to Beyonce’s Tumblr, which you can find here.

Does Beyonce have a surname? I can’t recall ever having seen it/known about it/heard it.
It’s not going to be life-changing information. Just wondering is all…

I don’t get it. Essentially her job is ‘wife’. Her own achievements are admirable and she fulfills her current position very well. But it’s a supporting role. Admirable, yes. Aspirational, I’m not sure. Would you want your daughter to aspire to be someone important, or someone important’s wife?

          Depends I guess….

Is she admired because she’s the wife of the President?

Or is she admired because she’s a Harvard Law Graduate who managed to juggle an exceptionally successful career whilst raising 2 seemingly well-adjusted and happy daughters and did all of this whilst supporting her husband in the early days of his political campaign?

She’s a fairly amazing woman, I’d say there’s a bit to aspire to there.

Do we need a explanation of why she wrote it? In a world where women spend so much time tearing each other down, it’s nice to see someone acknowledge the importance of good, strong role models for our daughters.
