Cameron Diaz talks marriage and kids

As one of Hollywood’s most eligible bachelorettes, Cameron Diaz has always downplayed the possibility of marriage — whether her current beau was Matt Dillon, Justin Timberlake or, earlier this year, Yankees star Alex Rodriguez.

But after turning 40 on August 30, Diaz now admits she's actually open to getting hitched.

"It just wasn't the thing I was drawn to. I certainly didn't want it in my 20s. Or my 30s," Diaz said in the latest U.K. edition of Esquire, on sale Ocotber. 4. But now, Diaz says, "We'll see!"

Her suitor needs to hit his marks if he expects to stay with Diaz, however.

"I want someone who takes care of themselves, who's strong," Diaz said. "To hear people are engaged in life like that is exciting to me."

But with the right man, Diaz, who recently donned a pregnancy bodysuit in What to Expect When You're Expecting, even admitted that she'd consider having children.

"I don't need to have the children in my life be a part of my literal flesh," she said. "And anyway, there's still a possibility of that, I ain't that old. I'm feeling very … capable."

Diaz is also feeling secure and more confident than ever at 40.

"For the first time in my life I'm content. Getting older is the best part of life. I know myself better. I feel more capable than ever. And as far as the physicality of it – I feel better at 40 than I did at 25."
