Three women, a gay comedian, a dad and a male heartthrob walk into a pub...

We have all been there at some point in our life. Stuck in the job from hell. Whether it is wearing a degrading uniform, not being allowed to be you or having the world’s worst colleagues.

If life gives you lemons (synonym for worst jobs), do you make lemonade or chuck out the lemons, pull the doona over your head and cry forever?

Six of our favourite Mamamia personalities order some beers at the Watson’s Bay Hotel to share their worst jobs and how it led them to knowing what they wanting to do.

Overworked 10 years ago

I have worked horrible jobs. One in particular the manager claimed and faked having cancer to get me working extra hours (80 hours on paper, but 50 extra hours off paper a fortnight) That would be fine if I wasn't paid poorly and made to come in every day of the week. The days I would have off I would plan to do things and would mention with excitement only for a "work meeting" to be that day that was mandatory and would be cancelled 5 minutes prior to it. We had to serve expired food as we were not allowed to buy fresh food until the old stuff was gone. Also the cancer lie was just cruel because I was doing all of her work from rosters to paperwork on my bus trips to and from the place and working alone 90% of the time as a result. Never had a break working there.

I also work in banking where we are salesmen selling car insurance that is over priced and the managers favourite form of torture is screwing with our job security. all the staff in the branch except one works a second job because the options we have is to be transferred to a suburb far away from where we live or drop our hours. You can get your mortgage from the same person who actually makes your fries.

Just a note (and this is not trying to be snippy) - in your facebook promo you put "Do bad jobs help find what you really want to do or cause PTSD?"... I have PTSD... It is from a sexual assault, not having a nightmare boss. I know that you were trying to be lighthearted and flippant, but it left a bit of a sour taste to see you guys taking the mickey out of my mental illness.

Hi Lyuellen, at Mamamia we take mental health very seriously. We are sorry for any unintentional offence we caused (or the perception that we see PTSD as lighthearted). Mamamia Team
