A woman is selling the rights to her uterus on ebay — to raise money for a very worthy, and very sad, cause.
April Creed’s friend Ann Truscott has terminal breast cancer and needs AUS$25,000 to fund treatment that will prolong her life, the Huffington Post reports.
Ann, a mother of five, already has bone and brain tumours, and she and her family have already drained their finances fighting the disease.
So April is doing everything she can to raise much-needed funds for her friend — including posting a listing to the online auction site advertising “future rights to my worn out uterus”.
“After I die, or alternatively if I’m forced to frolic with a hysterectomy … this beauty is all yours ….to do with what you will,” April writes on the listing, which has a starting bid of $2,500.
“Imagine the possibilities ! You could frame it, serve party nibbles in it, I reckon it would serve well as one of those cleaning mits,” she says. “Imagine your partner’s face when they unwrap it at christmas. Scratch that — give it to your mother-in-law…”
“My shiny Jynie scrubs up well . It’s all I have to offer … that and humour”.
April takes a less tongue-in-cheek tone on a seperate crowdfunding page on GoFundMe, where she fondly describes her ill friend as “an intelligent, funny, big hearted mother and wife”.
“She has worked hard all her life. She loves to sew, her chooks, she even drops the odd profanity,” April writes.
“We all feel powerless against cancer . This is a very real and worthy way of fighting back. We can change the ending of this story.”

I really feel for this woman and her friend sounds very caring. I do think it would be more helpful to raise money to make her friend comfortable, help fund her funeral and leave some money to her family. She's terminal and has metases, I don't know that more treatment will be all that beneficial. I could be wrong and I'm sure my opinion will be unpopular, but I've seen treatment go beyond helpful and range into unhelpful territory.
You think it would be more helpful to raise money so Ann can die sooner and have a nice headstone? I can tell you now that despite her terminal illness, Ann has plenty she wants to live for and is quite capable of deciding for herself when enough is enough without some random opining she shouldn't be wasting the money on trying to stay alive. I get that you think you're being dispassionately thoughtful, but seriously, go build a bridge and get over yourself. Who are you to offer any opinion on whether she should seek further treatment or not and basically suggest she give up or that her life isn't worth continuing because there isn't a cure or that her condition and suffering might worsen? It's not like it's coming out of YOUR pocket. Yes, I know April and through her, Ann; between you and April, I sure know who I'd want to have my back in a time of need.
I think she is talking as a medical professional.. I don't think the comment was meant to be unkind.

Just my opinion, I knew it may not be popular and I don't know her particular history or situation. I made that comment because I've seen a lot of people suffer through a lot of treatment, treatment that didn't add to the quality of their lives and have seen people leave their lives peacefully being looked after palliatively. I do not think her life isn't worth continuing, I guess having seen worst case scenarios before that affects my view.
