Why wouldn't you, like, totally get married at schoolies?

Who says kids can’t make a commitment? Two schoolies are this morning celebrating after they got ‘married’ yesterday on the beach. The couple met each other five days ago and they interrupted their honeymoon to do be interviewed by Lisa Wilkinson this morning on the Today Show along with the best man, Alex.

My favourite part? It’s hard to say. The matching schoolies t-shirts (including Alex)? The plastic ring?  Oh wait, my favourite part was the way Lisa managed to get through the interview without wagging her finger like I was doing at home and saying “WTF”.

According to the Herald Sun

.

Ipswich schoolies Monique Quinn and Matthew Elliot, both 17, exchanged personally written vows in front of friends at Surfers Paradise.

Wristbands made way for a hurriedly bought wedding band but there was no frock or fancy suits.

Just shirts emblazed with the words “Schoolies 2010 Hellz yeah”.

“My father does not know but I guess he is going to find out now,” Monique said. “Mum wasn’t too happy.”

The wedding isn’t legally binding because of their age but that didn’t stop Matthew popping the question – cask in hand 24 hours after meeting Monique. Monique said: “We were just in the carpark having a few drinks.

Ah, it’s not legally binding. That’s the fine print. Important that. If you’re married, how old were you and were you ‘ready’? If you’re not married but would like to be one day, got an age in mind? Double figures would be a good start….

They're not actually married... It's exactly like when you went up to your boy crush in kindie and told everone that you two were married.
I don't see how this made the news or why any one cares?
They aren't bound to each other legally at all, so why does it matter?

I went to high school with my husband and we actually became boyfriend/girlfriend on leavers week at 17 lol We were engaged at 20, married at 25 and celebrate 10 years together(As a couple, two married) on Wednesday :) Neither of our parents were impressed when we became engaged at 20 and suggested we live together before tying the not. We built our house together at 21 and the first year was a struggle being the first time living away from home and working full time. As you grow older you change as a person and it just makes me realize that no matter how much we both change our love for each other never will :)
