For real: How to get fit and healthy while watching The Voice.

Last week The Journal of the American Heart Association published the worst study ever.

The research revealed that watching TV is killing you. Adults who watch more than three hours of TV a day were twice as likely to die early than those who abstained from excessive tele time.

This wasn’t just because people who are already sick spend more time on the couch, either. The study only looked at people who were young and healthy, and the average age of participants was just 37.

“Television viewing is a major sedentary behaviour and there is an increasing trend toward all types of sedentary behaviours,” said Miguel Martinez-Gonzalez, M.D., Ph.D., M.P.H., the study’s lead author and professor and chair of the Department of Public Health at the University of Navarra in Pamplona, Spain.

“Our findings are consistent with a range of previous studies where time spent watching television was linked to mortality.”

Fortunately, the Internet has already come up with a solution to this diabolical problem – a solution that allows you to binge watch as long as you want, and get fit doing it.

TV is killing you because you don’t move while you watch it – so the fix is to get moving.

Enter the workout game – it’s kind of like a drinking game, but for exercise. Every time a certain thing happens on your favourite show, you have to do a corresponding activity. The result? At the end of the show, you’ve had a full workout.

There are already hundreds of workout games out there, but these are a few of the best. I tried the 30 Rock workout last night, and after three episodes I was almost dead – but it certainly wasn’t from sitting around watching television.

I don't think I could concentrate on the show and do these exercises at the same time. I would be too busy dying on the floor!

But the dying on the floor just makes it so much more exciting. I mean... it gets your heart rate up at least!
