Tom Meagher's beautiful tribute to his wife Jill, 2 years after her death.

On the second anniversary of Jill Meagher’s death, her husband Tom has written a heartfelt tribute to her on his Facebook page.

In the post, published early Monday morning, Mr Meagher recalls the couple’s last moments together before Jill stepped out of their home on that fateful day — remembering the pink of her skin from the scalding shower and her lilting voice as she walked out of the home.

“When I left the apartment, I don’t remember looking back, all I remember is the sound of your voice singing, and fading slightly with each step I took, until it vanished,” Tom wrote in the post.

“You were a true original Jilly, a free soul, you were unashamedly you,” he wrote.

“I love you even more than you loved life.”

Irish national Jill Meagher, 29, moved with Tom to Australia in 2010 and started a job with the ABC in Melbourne.

She was raped and murdered while walking home from a bar in Brunswick, Melbourne on September 22, 2012.

This is Tom Meagher’s tribute to Jill in full:

Tom Meagher

Another year without you in the world Jill Meagher. I remember our last moments together two years ago this morning. You emerged from the bathroom beaming with Friday enthusiasm, wearing a towel that was wrapped so tightly around your head that it forced your eyes to slant upwards. Your skin was bright pink from your customary scalding-hot shower, and the edges of the towel left a white imprint on your forehead. When I left the apartment, I don’t remember looking back, all I remember is the sound of your voice singing, and fading slightly with each step I took, until it vanished.

Days like this make it all real; how you loved to irritate and surprise me, how much you loved to dance in your PJ’s spilling red wine all over the floor. I still find your to-do lists in old leather compendiums and exam results, notes, sketches, stories and characters in the pockets of old bags. I read your diary, and laugh at how funny you were, even when writing only to yourself. I still keep your clown make-up and your perfume. The bristles of your hairbrush are still blunted by the sheer volume of dark hair wrapped so tightly around it that they’re impossible to remove. I keep the thousands of photos you kept of the family and friends you loved so much. You were a true original Jilly, a free soul, you were unashamedly you. I love you even more than you loved life. xxx

Now if only the Federal and State Governments could put all the manpower displayed in suspected terrorist raids into fighting violence against women.

I also want to remember the bright, vivacious much-loved 21 year old RMIT student, Britt Lapthorne, who went missing in Dubrovnic six years ago now. Last seen 18 September 2008, and her body later recovered from the water after suspected foul play, the case remainng heart-breakingly and chillingly unsolved. It's unnacceptable that the perpetrator(s) was/were never caught, and likely still free. RIP Britt, and gone too soon.

Sad 10 years ago

I think about Britt all the time. So angry and sad that her killer or killers were never found. Thinking of her and her family.
