So I am to plumb for a bathroom under my stairs now, to create an extra powder room? In a space I rent????

I don't think it's very realistic to suggest people build a loft or under stairs storage. Most apartment dwellers are renters and don't have that as an option, and even if you owned you need some very specific types of architecture to have a loft.
